Rice

When looking at a bag of rice it says 250g and the nutritional information is for per 125g. Shall I weigh the rice uncooked or cooked? The supposedly 250g turns out to be around 235g once cooled?

Uh rice like doubles or triples in weight during cooking, most dry servings are like what, 50g? close to 110-150 cooked for about 150 calories or a but more.

Before cooking - the 125g becomes 235g once cooked.

I think rice doubles or triples in VOLUME, not weight

Weigh raw and use an entry in the database for uncooked rice

125 g seems like a cooked serving, but the label should make it clear if it is. What's the brand?

No i eat the whole of the bag at a time but the rice is also precooked so you could eat it without microwaving it. But it weighs around 235g after ive microwaved it even though it says 250g on the packet. So does it lose 15g in the microwave? :(

The 15g lost is moisture during cooking. Weigh before.

Ok. So in 2 minutes it loses 15g? Wouldn't have thought that

    Water can get lost fast.

How much do you think rice weighs compared to water? Where do you think all that water goes when you cook the rice with a lid on?

If it's precooked rice then yes you open the bag and you lose some of the water stored in the rice/container during nuking process. You would count the after microwave weight to compare to the nutritional value on the bag in grams.

yeah think ill weigh it before it then after the microwave to see if there is any difference, thanks. Why would you count the after microwave weight?

Because that's its cooked state, and honestly that would give you more calories per gram by a very small amount, so you're erring on the side of caution. in reality for those packs it's not a huge deal as long as whatever your portion is matches what you log.
