I am a bit discourage because I am in the program for like a month now and I only have lost 1-2 lbs. I am eating pretty much within the calorie i was advised and i am hitting plateau. I play basketball 3x a week for an hour and mindful of not using the extra calories added so I don't go overboard the given calorie for me. What am i doing wrong? any advice is greatly appreciated.

Losing weight (even 1-2 pounds) is not a plateau.

Eating 'pretty much within the calorie' range means what? Do you log/track all calories, every day? Or do you skip meals/days? How often do you approximate? Or are you fairly meticulous with using food scale and such?

What is your current weight and height? What is your calorie goal to eat? With out more information its hard to give feedback.

All of this. Plus if you don't have much to lose (less than 20 pounds), half a pound a week is a reasonable goal.

    Agree with all of this.

What exactly does "pretty much within the calorie" you were advised mean? Are you staying under goal every day? Are you going over on some days and by how much? Are you logging absolutely everything you eat? Are you using a kitchen scale to weigh food portions or are you guessing?

How much do you need to lose to reach a healthy weight? The closer you are the more slowly you are going to lose; that's normal. Here is a good set of guidelines for choosing your rate of loss each week and the calorie deficit you need to create to reach that goal:

    Pound per week goals
75+ lbs: set to lose 2 lb range (-1000 calories per day)
Between 40 - 75 lbs: set to lose 1.5 lb range (-750 calories per day)
Between 25-40 lbs: set to lose 1 lb range (-500 calories per day)
Between 15-25 lbs: set to lose 1 -.50 lb range (-500 to -250 calories per day)
Less than 15 lbs: set to lose 0.5 lbs range (-250 calories per day)

So, for example, when you have less than 25 pounds to lose you can't really expect (nor should you try) to lose more than about 1/2 pound per week. The reason being, if you don't have a lot to lose it's pretty hard to meet the calorie deficit needed each day to lose more than that each week. Anyone who is aiming for more weight loss per week than they should be is going to end up with MFP giving them a goal of the minimum calories per day for their gender. If that doesn't create the necessary deficit they won't lose at the rate they chose simply because they can't create the necessary calorie deficit while eating the minimum number of calories.

1720 is the calorie goal MFP set for me, I actually decreased my carbs and increase the protein numbers. Being Filipino we eat a lot of rice, bread, and sauce. I am trying to eat white rice at least half a cup and a cup for brown rice. The quinoa is good as well but not together with some of the Filipino dishes I cook.

As long as you stay in your calorie range, eating rice isn't going to hinder your weight loss. I find rice amazing and filling, it actually helps me keep my calorie goal.

So your weight loss so far is right in line with where it should be given you only have 15-20 pounds to lose. Just keep doing what you're doing.

You can still eat the foods that you enjoy and still lose weight. All you need is a digital food scale to weigh all your food in grams to be more accurate with your intake. Also, make sure to choose accurate food database entries that match the packaging of your food. There are quite a few errors in the database. If you're making a home cooked meal, use the recipe builder to enter all ingredients.

Keep doing what you're doing, otherwise.
