This show is like crack to me when I can catch it. Oh man this guy today legit thought he was talking to Katy Perry. Even after meeting the catfisher he swore it was an elaborate cover up by Katy Perry and she was really talking to him just had to hide it from the public.

On a scale of 1-10 how sure are you that you're talking to Katy Perry?
1000.

:D

I wish more happy endings happened though. Feel sorry for some of these people. I don't do much reality TV but this is one of them.

Some of these catfishers are scary people, man. Like for real check their basements for missing persons. It puts the lotion kind of stuff. :s

I haven't seen the last two seasons but I used to be addicted to the point of having Catfish viewing nights with my husband, best friend, and her mom. *opens up MTV app*

I haven't seen the last few seasons but that show is very addicting. Bring on the crazy! I personally like Max better than Nev because Max seems like he won't put up with any crap and Nev is more trying to give the catfisher the benefit of the doubt.

Although there was one episode a few years ago where Nev got so pissed at the catfisher that he took the guys cell phone and threw it in the river they were standing next to.

I was almost catfished once years ago...but I was smart enough to figure it out quickly.

    almost?

@138shades yeah...almost...I was chatting with this guy from PoF and he seemed legit but when I wanted to take it off the site and meet he started making excuses. When I asked him if he wanted to exchange numbers he made excuses but when he did take my number and call me the number came up "UNKNOWN" and he had this weird accent that I now can identify as South African...even though the guy told me he grew up in Short Hills, NJ. So he either was a scammer or a catfish. I googled the hell out of his name and came up with absolutely nothing.Either way I peaced out.

there was an episode a while back with a girl who thought she was dating "Bow Wow"...and it turned out to be a chick who posed as a dude.

But usually the catfish is a very overweight person posing as an attractive one and they always say "I'm still the same person you've been talking to for the past 5 years...I just look different and lied about my name, what I look like, occupation and where I live...but everything else is the truth!"

i haven't seen it in a while but i watched the first few seasons having text binge watching sessions with my sister.

it's definitely a guilty pleasure. the ones where the catfish is just unattractive and afraid they'll never find anyone unless they steal pics make me so sad for them. not justifying what they do, but how bad have we gotten that young people truly believe fat = unlovable. and the saddest is that it usually plays out when they meet the real person is rejected and it just reinforces those feelings. i wonder how many take any responsibility for the lying they did playing a big part in the rejection.

but i like the happy ones. my favorite one was a girl who was catfished by a person who was transitioning. they both had used fake pictures but the first girl came clean while the other was still using the pics of a cute guy. when they met and they had the big reveal they each accepted the other and it was really sweet.

ok, end of really long catfish post.

Yep. Addicted and I'm pretty sure I know a handful of ppl on MFP who've been Catfished and probably aren't aware of it.

I think at least 1/2 the people on here are using fake photos. Unless they all have Channing Tatum's abs?

That's why we have Maximus, he's MFP's best fish finder.

I got you.......we have to be detectives when it comes to our feelings anymore unless we are just flirting around.

I remember when I was younger.....man I would have someone take pictures with signs or weird pictures to confirm their identity....and Im blown away that people don't do that today........hell I can even Skype a client of mine and I know there isn't too many phones without cameras anymore with that capability.

I did that once to prove I wasn't a catfish lololol they guys name was Tony so he wanted me to write "hi tony" on a piece of paper and hold it up while taking a selfie. I added a personal touch to it by writing it in red lipstick and added a smiley face. We never did meet, though...he turned out to have some weird fetishes. But that's a whole other thread...

I think some stories (most) are fake, but it's fun to watch. Whenever I get into online dating, it's a requirement to get on Skype within the first week of talking or I'm walking.

I'm glad that, when I met my wife, there was no Internet. We met people and dated. Doesn't mean we can't pretend to be celebrities in the bedroom. Or a naughty nurse. Or a fireman. Or a cowboy.
