So what works best for everyone? What this app has taught me is that I was eating too many calories and being lazy. Honesty is rough! I was eating healthy but constantly nauseous. Eating helped. Hhhmmm. Premenopausal hormones? Anyway my eyes are now open. Let the weight loss begin.
I have had the same experience with the app. Most of my life I could eat what I wanted without much consequence. If I did happen to gain weight, it would come off without hardly any effort. While that started to change in my 30s, the pregnancies in my late 30s and early 40s definitely opened my eyes to how things had changed. Even then, I still didn't realize how off track I was with calories until using MFP!
While I haven't had the hunger issue, perimenopausal hormones have been crazy! I actually went to the hospital with chest pains, racing heart, dizziness, etc last fall. Turns out it was hormones! Since I stopped the soda (actually, that was shortly before that episode), and started being a little more careful about what I was eating (less sugar), that has all gotten much better. Now to bring the calories into a more reasonable range (we're ranchers; steak, potatoes, eggs, gravies, bacon...they're staples here!) and get in shape to take some of the strain of the extra weight and fat off of this body that's served me so well for nearly 5 decades!2 -
Add me. I am 53 and I have 25 more pounds to lose after losing 64 lbs!2

I'll be 48 in November, and I've been faithfully using MFP since January of this year. So far, I've lost almost 31 lbs. My long term goal was to lose a total of 48 lbs by my 48th birthday, and I'm getting so close. For me to be successful, I had to give myself permission to make myself and my health a priority for my time and focus without feeling guilty. That's not always an easy thing as a mom. I wanted this to be a complete lifestyle change, and not just a temporary diet. I don't believe in quick fixes or quick weight loss. It took me many years to put it on, and it's not fair to myself to deprive myself for quick loss. Not to say it can't be done, but for me, it has to be something I can do for the rest of my life. My goal is set at one pound per week, and at first, that's what I averaged. It slowed down dramatically after the first 25 pounds, but slow progress is still progress. I know that even once I reach my goal, maintenance takes effort too. I have several committed and active MFP friends. We have open diaries, log everything, share our victories and our struggles and stay accountable to each other. The only person who can make this work is YOU! Stick with it because you are worth it!7
