Buying smaller clothes for motivation?

I found some jeans I love. I decided to buy them two sizes down to help motivate me to continue losing weight. Does anyone use this strategy?

Nope. Can't afford to buy clothes that don't fit. Not even for motivation. Currently my jeans are all too big but they're not cheap so I'm waiting til I'm closer to my end game to buy replacements lol.

Congrats on your success thus far!

I bought goal jeans (and other clothes) several times as I was losing weight. It felt great when I was able to get those goal jeans on! But this strategy can backfire too. I learned the hard way that:

    1) the more weight you lose, the faster you drop in size. Keep trying those goal jeans on or you could shoot right past that size on your way down.

    2) sometimes your shape changes as more weight comes off. My hourglass shape started to return when I had lost about half my weight, and some styles that looked good before were no longer flattering.

I did that once. But the changes in body shape that came with the weight loss meant they didn't look any good when I finally fit them. I wish I'd saved my money.

I've done it once, but it was a $6 pair of jeans from Goodwill. I'm only buying stuff from Goodwill right now because I'm only two-thirds of the way through my 150 pound weight loss and with that much to lose I can't hold off until goal to buy new clothes. This way I'm not going to be too heartbroken if the $6 item doesn't fit in five months.

I agree the shape changes so maybe jeans are not the best option. For now I am just trying clothes that I have not wear in a long time (bc never really liked how they fit) and now they fit fine! I still have to lose more to fit comfortably in a leather jacket, it "fits" but not good.
