Maintaining in College

I'm currently about to start my senior year of high school and I lost 30 pounds. I'm finally happy with myself but I'm terrified of college. Will I be peer pressured into unhealthy eating situations /social eating? How do I avoid the "Freshman 15"?

The Freshman 15 is based on carbs & other unhealthy choices which were the staples of cafeteria food back in the day. Modern colleges offer healthy options. Eat those.

I was skinny in college because I walked everywhere & took the stairs to classes. There were plenty of opportunities for exercise. Even when we went drinking we walked to the party, danced all night & then walked home. Plenty of burn.

For now, don't stress. Enjoy your senior year.

I actually lost 20 pounds my freshman year of college. I had gained them during my senior year because I had a job working at a fast food restaurant and wasn't involved in sports. I had little pocket money my freshman year, no car and was walking between classes all day so they fell right back off.

Who your friends are will dictate whether or not you'll get pressured into certain social situations. Choose your friends wisely (good advice beyond college, too) and you won't have any problems. But honestly, if you're being careful with your diet most days and staying active, the occasional night out isn't going to be a problem. It's all about balance.

Honestly, the dining hall will be more of a problem than 'social situations'. Which if by that you mean parties, I never once attended a college party that had food out. Not even a bowl of plain, stale Ruffles. Your friends may want to go eat off campus, or outside the dining hall every now and then, but that costs money which was always a great excuse to limit those trips.

Our dining hall had a lot of options and always required a lap before you could make any decisions. There was one day they had both chicken patties and sloppy joes out for lunch. Seriously!? (Confession: I put sloppy joe meat on my chicken patty. I REGRET NOTHING!) We also had a soda fountain- I allowed myself a glass at lunch but made it a rule to have milk at dinner. Then there was the froyo machine. 4 years and I still couldn't perfect my swirl but darn it I tried! You're just going to have to police your own portions & choices here.

PS: I see you're from NJ. Do you know where you are/want to go to school? I went to Rutgers & I friggen loved it.)

I went to St. John's and even way back in the 00s, there were some pretty healthy options in the dining hall. I'm sure it's even better now.
