Well day 1 has been a perverbial punch to the gut, 1000 cal. Over goal, who knew, sodas aka pop aka pepsi Mtn Dew, are killers to your totals, gotta rethink that option

Try carbonated water - since you're on the go maybe pick up some of those water flavouring packs (Mio, Crystal Light). I think they're mostly calorie free. Work your way to ditching those and try lemon or cucumber or unsweetened iced tea (lots of good flavours, just drop the bag in your water bottle) to get extra healthy!2

Going diet soda was the easiest switch I had to make. I don't drink it often so I didn't save many calories doing that, but for someone who drinks them daily the difference in calories can be amazing! Switch to diet versions of your favorite drinks (or replace with other noncaloric drinks) and you will find sticking to your calorie allowance to be a lot easier.5

My best advice is to log it before you eat or drink it. If you log it after, you only find out when its too late!7

That's why pre logging is a good idea1

I have 1 cup of coffee in the mornings and occasionally have a Starbucks. Then it's water or the diet citrus green tea from Lipton. Great flavor, 0 calories.0

I broke my diet coke addiction in January. Totally worth it, I dont have any sodas now except a very occasional San Pellegrino0

Yup... ditch the pop, or reduce to 12 oz/day, and find a higher protein option to the candy bar as well. You were way under your already low protein goal, even with 2600 cals0

This is exactly why we tell people to start out by simply logging everything they are eating and drinking. It's SUCH an eye opener. The takeaway is that you now understand one of the main factors in why you were gaining weight. The good news is that it's a very easy fix. Simply replace some or all of the sugared sodas with diet versions or another non- or low-calorie drink. I love Diet Mt. Dew, personally. I'll sometimes get it when I'm at a convenience store and add a couple shots of cherry flavoring to it....
Trust me when I say that this won't be the last thing to shock you with its calorie content. As others have mentioned, it's often a good idea to look up or log something before you eat it. Something that sounds low-calorie may not really be the good option it looks or sounds like.2 -

My thoughts pretty much exactly.0 -
Log everything you eat like you aren't trying to lose for a week. After you have all the information, choose what to reduce or eliminate. I am 3 years in and maintaining for a year. You can do this. I did.3

I tried those for a while. Then realized they were basically diet sodas. Now I drink water with a tea bag (passion tea).1 -

This was actually one of the best things I did when I first started dieting. Eating normally to see where the bulk of my calories comes from. He's on the right track.4 -

Yes I think day one was an eye opener for myself as well. It took me a good month to get my food intake where I wanted it to be. Now make your next days awesome!!1

Look at everything you learned. Your eyes have now been opened. It is shocking but from here you go forward with the ability to make better choices because you now have more info.0

The silver lining..........logging all your "usuals" can be a wake up call. You can find substitutes. Some things you may be willing to substitute for a lifetime, other things nope - not gonna happen. But you will figure out which are which.0
