Thinking of upping my calories, need some suggestions?

Hello all. I need your suggestions. I have about 30-35 pounds left to lose. Lately, I've been feeling hungrier(most be due to school stress). Anyway, I was thinking of upping my calorie goal by 100 calories. My calorie goal is set low, but I usually feel fine before/ once I reach it. Until more recently... What's your suggestion?(my calorie goal is set so that I lose 2 pounds a week) I do minimal workout. Will I still lose weight or will go into the maintenance stage? Hope this makes sense!

With 30-35 pounds to lose, change your goal to 1 pound a week. 2 pounds is too aggressive for you, and I'm assuming you're set to 1200 calories so you wouldn't reach that rate anyway.

Try changing your goal to 1 pound or even .5 pound per week. That will give you more calories and you will still lose weight it will just be a little slower.

You won't go into maintenance unless you're eating at maintenance - which from the info you've provided, would not be 100 cals more than you're eating now.

What is your average weekly loss? One lb is equal to approximately 3500 calories, so you can figure out your average weekly deficit that way. If you add 100 a day, or 700 calories a week to that, what would it out your average weekly loss at?

If you're set to lose 2 lbs a week, that is a pretty aggressive goal with only 35 lbs left to lose. I would recalculate your goal to lose 1 lb a week. That would give you an extra 500 a day and will be more sustainable. You'll also maintain more LBM losing at a more reasonable pace.

An extra hundred calories a day will slow your weekly weight loss by less than a quarter pound a week, so if you're currently losing 2 pounds a week, you'll lose about 1.8 pounds (1 pound, 13 oz.) a week.

2 lbs/week is too aggressive of a goal with only 30 lbs to lose. 1 lb/week would be more appropriate.

Are you losing at a rate of 2 lbs/week consistently? If so, that means you are eating at a deficit of 1000 cals from your maintenance level, so no, adding 100 cals would not put you into maintenance. By changing your goal to 1 lb/week your goal should go up by 500 cals/day (depending if you've bottomed out at 1200 or not) and you should still lose, but more slowly....

Remember, a wise rabbit once said "the winner is the one who eats the most and still loses".

Yup! I'm set to 1200! Would I readjust my calorie goal tomorrow or tonight? :)

I tend to weigh in a week to a few months! Therefore I'm not sure what may be my weekly weight loss. :o however, I've been eating 1200 calories per day.

I don't weigh myself that often at all. I weigh in a week to a few months! I'm not really sure of my weight loss rate. :o however I eat about 1200 calories a day. Awesome quote btw! :)

Did you weigh yourself when you started out? Have you weighed yourself at any time since? Subtract your most recent weigh-in (or better yet, go weigh yourself now and use that as most recent weigh-in) from starting weight, and divide by the number of weeks between start and most recent weigh-in. That's your average weekly weight loss.

How long have you been logging your food and how much weight have you lost so far? Or you don't know your current weight? I think it's fine not to weigh but I think it can be useful to have some sort of metric to evaluate your progress by - whether that is measurements, how your clothes fit, scale weight, or something else.

What are your stats? While 1200 is appropriate for some, it's really not for most of the people on here that set their goal to that.

I would adjust your goal to lose 1lb a week (tonight). Remember though, it's more important to think of your calories as an average over a week, so it's okay to eat less on some days (but not less than 1200) and more on others. It balances out. I eat less during the week and more on weekends - but whatever works for you!

I'm having some trouble calculating the math lol. I started on June 18th and as of today I lost 17.6 pounds.

That's about 12 weeks, which would make your average loss about 1.5 lbs a week.

OK. That works out to just under 1.5 pounds a week, which equates to an average daily deficit of a bit over 700 calories. You could boost your calories by 200 calories a day and still lose a pound a week, which is plenty fast enough when you only have 35 lbs left to lose.

1200 calories will make anyone want to overeat their calories.. but you said "almost eating over".. 100 calories is a drop in the bucket and not even close to maintain..
