MFP Exercise Database Disparity & Calculation Errors

I have posed this question to MFP and am waiting on their reply but would like to know if others are having similar issues with inputting exercise into their diaries.

The main exercise I do is walking, either slowly while pushing my grandson along (3.2 KPH - 2 MPH) or a brisk walk with "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (6.5 KPH - 4 MPH).

When I enter these into the exercise tab the slow walk yields more energy used then the brisk one - which I find rather strange as it should be the other way around. I have used other sites to verify this and something is awry.

The other issue is when I initially add an exercise eg. Gardening from the database it shows 910 Kjs burnt for 30 mins and this compares with another site I used to double check the result.

Unfortunately when I went back in and added additional exercise using what was already in my log the 30 mins only yielded 218 Kjs. I tried the same with 45 mins, using both methods, and it also yielded a great difference in results.

MFP know about this problem but have not advised when it will be fixed. I enter exercise from scratch now in lieu of updating what is already there i.e I DO NOT enter exercise under "ADD CHECKED" as it yields a false result.

As I mentioned MFP know about these and I have asked how I can manually enter exercise - not the time but the energy burnt, which I will obtain from other sources until I am confident about MFP's Database.

For info & advice - I'll advise when MFP gets back to me.

Keep well

I have recently emailed them on the same. For walking these are the database options, exactly as listed (yes the ones that say "pa" actually say that). All are for the same weight and same time (60 minutes)

"Walking, 1.5 mph, leisurely pa" 423
    "Walking, 2.0 mph, slow pace " 176
"Walking, 2.5 mph, leisurely pace" 211
"Walking, 2.5 mph, leisurely pa" 1268
    "Walking, 3.0 mph, mod. pace " 232
"Walking, 3.0 mph, mod. pace, walking dog " 232
    "Walking, 3.0 mph, mod. pace, w " 557
"Walking, 3.5 mph, brisk pace" 267
    "Walking, 4.0 mph, " 764
"Walking, 4.0 mph, very brisk pace" 352
"Walking, 4.5 mph, very, very brisk pace" 443
    "Walking, 5.0 mph " 562
    "Walking, 5.0 mph, fast pace, w " 231

For me, I believe one of them is right, the other way off. Not sure what the issue is.

If you want you can add your own exercise but going to exercises, my exercise, create exercise.

Or you can manually change the number when you pick a database one.

    Thanks

Yeah, I saw that - do similar with my Foods & Recipes, but something is broken and I'll give MFP a while before I do the work-around.

What I would like to see is a "Quick Tools - Add Kilojoules/Calories" button in the exercise tab as they have in the food tab - would solve everything.

You can add negative Kjs/Cals in the food diary and it will accept them but obviously does not add to your exercise totals, just balances your daily total.

I am finding that a lot of the exercises listed say 0 calories burned. Example: I plug in my weight then pic the exercise abdominal Crunches for 5 minute = 0 Calories. So I thought surely I am burning calories. I then changed the time to 55 minutes still = 0 calories burned. There are a ton of exercises that say 0 for 55 minutes. Then there are several that give me 215 calories burned for 55 minutes, example:Cycling indoor is the same as cycling mountain, Bootcamp & Calathenics. That is bull crap! How do we get them to fix this problem?
