I'm not sure that MFP gave me the right amount of calories!

I am 20 years old (male), 6' 1", and I weight 297lbs. Currently, I have my setting set to lose 2lbs per week and the calories I was given was ~2,300. Does that seem like too much?

    nope. For you to maintain 300 lbs is going to be 3k+ calories, so sounds about right.

    I ran your numbers through a tdee calculator and it gave me 2393 for a 500 calorie a day deficit which works out to a pound a week.

    Try it for 2 really honest weeks and ensure you have the right activity level. Log everything everday and go from there. You may be pleasantly surprised!

    Depends on which activity level he chose. Light Exercise (1-3 hours/wk of exercise; 1.375 multiplier) gives a TDEE of 3319 calories. 2 lbs/wk target loss would set calories at 2319. Its in the ballpark anyways.

    It does not sound too high. My husband weighs 60 pounds less than you, has a desk job and still burns 2500-3000 calories without working out. (We are active with our children on evenings and weekends though.)

    What did you choose as your activity level?

    I work retail but only part time, so I chose lightly active I think. Not the lowest setting but the second lowest.
