Also I had an iPhone 3 and after 2 years could no longer update it, nor did most of my apps work after they where "updated". Apple literally made a device that forces you to upgrade every 2 years. And for that I will never go back. My iPhone 3 still works, but I can't load anything on it because iTunes doesn't work with it now.
The only thing I have to say about people making the "catch up" comment is that no matter if it comes out after anyone else, Apple really does take time to put love into their product. I find it the most reliable of any phone I've ever had.
Agree with this. They do it right. I work in IT and I can't stand the problem associated with non-apple products. Apple works and it works well. I realize that a lot of techies hate Apple and they hate it because the technology is not fun for them. They can't mess with it. But, for many of us, that's exactly what we like about it.
Samsungs/androids are garbage. IT security nightmare. It really is third grade software.
Anyway, there is also this whole OWS spin to it. Apple is often associated with elitism and the 2%. When the iPad was released, I stood in line and paid 990$ to get mine and there were others who did that. Apple didn't offer financing yet and everyone in line paid up front. Financing wasn't ready for a couple weeks or month. It was also the height of the new recession and that kind of mindset set in. It was out of reach for the majority of the world.
Nowadays both phones are equally costly. Maybe iPhone a little bit more. Verizon really did a good job at convincing the 98% that the new toys are affordable while driving them deeper into debt. But the attitude stuck on. And Apple people are annoying folks. I used to have my iPad hidden in my bag and random people would come to me brag about their toy and how much they love it. Just like that. And when I brandish mine out, they would go away.
There was even an internet joke.... How do you know someone has an iPad? They readily tell you, whether they know you or not. It was a status symbol for a brief time. Not anymore.
But I don't get the lingering attitude towards it. I personally hate Android phones because the OS is so rough with loose ends, sneaky as hell and they would sell data and randos would have my info. The google app ecosystem is very sneaky too. My icloud account does not do that and I love it. It does not annoy me that is very important.
I don't need a smartphone. I need a cool assistant which lives up to my expectation. Apple is so seamless. I used to fret about the gaps in android phones. To the poster who asked if I had exposure to coding, I have a sun solaris ecosystem in my home. I left IT behind in my late 20s but never forgot the skill.
Developers love the android phones because they are often geeky nerds who never get laid and a phone they can hack and do allegedly cool things is one of the few they feel ups their self-worth I don't have a gf but I design my own apps on android OS.
I was going to pick this apart line by line because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Instead I will just quietly enjoy how much time you spent writing this making yourself look so bad.

its impossible to recommend upgrading or not to anyone. I always hear so called "horror" stories about "moving to the newest version of this or that". frankly, i've never had an issue upgrading anything from PC's to Phones etc.
the developers take it on the chin if any sort of problem does occur but can you imagine the sheer number of unique situations their single OS has to operate under? nearly every pc/phone has been used in massively different ways, some good some not so good by zillions of users and the fact that anything works as good as it does just seems to prove the quality of development these days, be it apple/android/linux/sql or whatever.0 -

Seconded.
The only thing I'm finding with continued use is how bulky they made iMessages/emojis now. Feel like there's way too much going on when I really just send emojis and photos. And I liked when they were always cute and tiny. Now they're huge. The conversation almost looks like a Facebook Messenger screen, and don't get me started on that app..separate app...annoying..storage using... ANYWAY.0 -

Anyone having issues with MFP on iOS10 today? I upgraded to iOS10 and WatchOS3 on Tuesday. Everything worked great Tuesday and yesterday. Today, MFP is not showing calories burned on my iPhone, but it is showing my step count. If I go to the myfitnesspal.com web site, my calories ARE showing up there. Any ideas?0

I always find the territorial pissing about smartphones odd.
I could not care less what someone else uses, and have no need to tout the one i use as being better than anyone else's and think that behavior is fascinating.2 -

That sounds like something a windows phone user would say.5 -

i always come into these threads to watch the disproportionate anger that seems to ensue.
This wasn't even an iphone vs android thread. this was someone asking about iOS, and yet users of other phones/software wanted to come in just to cheer for their platform and denounce the other.
i mean, since it is a behavior i don't exhibit and see others are almost compelled to defend the gizmo in their pocket to the ends of the earth, i am fascinated.
i also like twitter wars, people who blindly support a political party and how do they get the filling inside a twinkie?
i guess i am easily fascinated. oh well.0 -

To be fair, OP did ask what people dislike about iOS 10. The fact that is is part of the iPhone is a valid dislike.
