I've just come off slimming world as it's too free for me and I end up failing. I'm hoping a calorie restriction will help me. My problem is I've already gone over my carbon and sugar allowance today. I love my fruit salads and enjoy my homemade smoothy each morning but maybe I need to make changes? Hard to forget what slimming world says

Carbon? I assume you mean carbs, unless you have a medical reason, there is no reason to cut carbs or sugar as long as you stay under your calorie goals.6

Keep trying to edit it but yes sorry I meant carbs. Thank you.

Making a mind shift from SW to MFP may take a transition period. Allow you self to eat the foods that make you feel best and create as much energy balance as possible while sticking to your deficit to lose weight.
There is no reason that you cannot eat the amount of carbs in your diet you want to, and still lose weight. No need to worry going over sugar and carbs unless you have a medical reason you should not.
You will get the hang of it.. take some time with this to get used to it.4 -
learn the difference between complex carbs and simple carbs. Simple carbs will be used by your body fairly quickly while complex carbs will slowly digest and not raise your glycemic index to much. Carbs are not bad, you need them for energy however, make sure you are getting the best benifits you can from them. Some good carbs are quinoa, old fashioned oats and sweet potatoe.2

No. There are no good or bad carbs, nor good or bad foods. There is a good or bad overall diet dependant on how that overall diet relates to your specific goals.
You should look at the nutritional data for each food and decide how and if it will fit in to your daily goals.
Sweet potatoes are no better than any other potato, they just differ slightly in nutritonal make up.

I will say this. Make sure you're weighing that fruit. A fruit smoothie and a fruit salad could potentially be pretty calorific and mess up your deficit if you're not accurate with it. You could easily switch out some of the fruit in your smoothie for veggies though my suggestions are limited because I rarely drink my calories.2

Some people's bodies respond differently to the "cookie cutter" diet plans. I never had success with any of them. Documenting everything (down to weight and serving size) of food to understand what you are truly taking in daily is your first step. Then read up on macros and play with your percentages. Try out different ratios of carbs:fat:protein to see how your body responds. I know this is not a simple suggestion, but it is your health and worth the time.0

It really doesn't matter about the individual macro's
I lost 30lbs without worrying at ALL about sugar, carbs etc. It doesn't have to be complicated.2 -

+1
My advice is to stick with staying near your calorie goal. You can play with other things once you've got your calories under control.1 -
Thank you everyone! I weight every last gram of each bit of fruit along with anything else I have. Going to stick with looking at calories first and see how I go. Thanks for your great advice xx
