I finally did it...I ran for 20 minutes straight!

It feels so good to finally have accomplished this goal as I am making my way through the c25k running plan. This was the hardest part of the plan as I had not had any problems on any of the other days. The first time I attempted, I ran 17 minutes...the second time, I did 15 minutes. Today, I was determined to run all 20 minutes with no walking or slowing down. I made a fun playlist on my Ipod, covered up the minutes on the treadmill and just RAN
After estimating that I was almost done, I looked at my time and I only had like 2 minutes left...and I cranked it out with no problems! I am excited...and impressed by the way my body works when I just make progress day to day.
Thank you all who have encouraged me and gave me tips over the past week. I couldn't have done it without encouragement!

WTG! I love running but it's rough on my knees and i dont have a treadmill. I like going to the YMCA b/c they have a padded track.0

Hey congratz! I'm just getting back out there again myself, can't wait until I can do 20 minutes again0

Awesome! I did C25K and recently ran 45 minutes. It's such a great feeling; I never thought I would be able to run that long without stopping. Once I got to 20 minutes, I found it much easier to add time. I went from 30 minutes to 45 in a couple days.
Best of luck and a huge congratulations!0 -
congrats. I have a new treadmill that I am going to try some things with. My knees are bad but I may just try to do a challenge to myself to run for 30 mins.0

That is so awesome! I had started the C25K but had to stop because I run with my daughter in the stroller and the weather wasn't the best for her outside. I've decided though that on bad weather days I'll just run laps around my yard cause I can't not run anymore. I really found the first week the hardest because it took me a little while to get my breathing just right, so I hope this time, now that I have everything in check, it's alot easier. You should be so proud of yourself!!!0

WAY TO GO! I remember when I first ran for 20 minutes straight. I felt on top of the world!
I've been slacking lately so I probably can't do it now. (I'm waiting to get more supportive shoes)...0 -

I agree - 20 minutes seemed like a magic number for me too.
Congratulations on achieving your goal - and keep up the good work!0 -
FANTASTIC!! Doesn't it feel good when you blow away your goal like that?? I, too, found it easier to get up to 30 minutes after the 20-minute mark -- and don't get discouraged along the way. I've been jogging forever, and those first 2 miles ALWAYS feel the worst. Everything after that is endorphins!!0

Very well done - isn't it such a fantastic feeling?! I'm so pleased for you! :flowerforyou:0

AWESOME!!!! I managed 15 minutes last week and haven't done it since because I changed my route around. Running is hard on a body, but it's one of those painful addictions (like tattoos). I miss it and crave it now. I'm down 2 pants sizes and 23 lbs. because of it and strength training though. Have you signed up for a 5K yet? Or even just looked around your area for one? It's good motivation. The rush you get being part of a race and hundreds of people is amazing. Good luck and keep up the great work!0
