Basically i know i need to get to the point where i am just a few hundred calories under my goal instead of the 1000 plus that I have been at for a year. I am pretty sure my metabolism is messed up. I have looked up and read a TON of stuff on starvation mode, metabolic damage and how to fix it. But it seems no one can completely agree on a way to fix your metabolism. Do i eat more food to compensate for all the exercising i do ( we are talking like eating 3000+ calories a day) cutting out exercise and if so how many calories should i am to burn a day ( i currently burn about 1000-1500 cals a day working out , and yes i do have a HRM that takes into account my height, weight, gender and age) or do I do a little of both. I have also heard that I should take a week off of working out completely and eat maintenance then kind of start over?
Pretty much I am utterly confused. lol

Dude, I wanna know what exercising you do to burn 1k - 1.5k a day in calories.
As far as "fixing" your metabolism there are many ways to go about it. Obviously starvation mode doesn't last forever. As soon as you start eating normally it'll correct itself.0 -
Any of those options will eventually get it back on track. If you're burning crazy amounts, I'd definitely cut back (and do more strength training, as that burns less but still gives you great benefits, and might help still give you the mental accomplishment.)
Basically, gradually increase cals, and cut back on cardio until you find the balance.
If you haven't seen it, here's a decent article about fixing metabolism (the fixing part is near the end.)

If you'd like some more specifics, I'd be happy to help if you want to msg me. I'm not an expert, but I've been through it. :flowerforyou:0 -
I think you're overestimating how much you're burning, unless your like a triathalete or something. (I could be wrong though)0

you can check out my exercise diary. I workout twice a day and run most of the time ( normally 7 miles a day )0 -

Check out my exercise diary. I am a former college athlete so I am used to working out. I workout roughly 2.5 hours a day, doing mostly high impact exercises0 -

Not necessarily...she's 6'1", still around 200+ lbs...Working out 1-2 hours per day can easily burn that much at that size.0 -
Try the BMR calculator at fat2fit radio: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/
That will give you a better idea of the calories you should be eating at your goal weight, which provides a enough of a deficit to lose weight in a manageable way. Go by your activity level and you won't have to worry about whether or not to eat your exercie calories. For example, I set my calories at 2100 on MFP and workout 4-5 days per week (around 2600 calories a week). I always eat 2100, regarldess of whether I exercised.
Then, listen to the "Top Audio Clips" -- all three. You might find you gain briefly - I gained only 0.6 pounds in the month I was resetting, but other have gained somewhat more. The next month I dropped below a number I hadn't seen in 15 years and now I know I'm on the right track.0 -
Like I said, I could be wrong, LOL. I would workout less, and do research on Hiit. your body obviously got used to doing the same routine and needs a shock or change. Agree with Ladyhawks post0

To fix my own metabolism after years of damage from the nutrient-deprived state of undiagnosed Celiac disease, I did a lot of exercise, starting early in the morning. The sooner you get your heart rate going in the day, the longer your body will maintain it's peak body temperature. A program that I love, that keeps me feeling energetic all day is the program laid out here: http://www.leangains.com/ . The author of the site does a great job explaining the science behind "starvation mode", as well as why his plans keep you from "starving" without having to eat tiny, unsatisfying meals every two hours.0
