I just finished my fourth round of antibiotics since April (I am immunosuppressed so it's a necessary evil) which has really thrown off my gi tract (which isn't great to begin with as I have crohn's). I bought some kefir to help rejuvenate my flora and I was wonder how much I should drink. It says a serving is half a cup but on the Liberte website (the brand I bought) it says to start with taking a tablespoon at each meal. Anyone have experience with this?

Yes I have crohn's and I'm ravaged from the antibiotics (I have fistulas and I frequently get abscesses and it is because of them and being immunosuppressed). Do you find it helps?

i have pretty heavy constipation when not dealing with trigger foods. I feel like it helps keep me from having super fatty/mucous (sorry tmi) and irregular bm's. Idk if its a placebo but i will probably never stop. My best friend has pretty insane IBS and acid reflux and just started drinking kefir and its helped too.

edit- i dont take meds for my crohns i didnt feel like it did *kitten* and taking prednisone 4 times a day wasnt worth it. Every time i take antibiotics i load up on probiotics.

I don't have Crohn's (as you know), so it might be different for you. I started with one cup a day and now drink 2 to 4 cups a day. I don't know if that's too much. But, I need the calories and seem to be doing well with it. My GI tract was messed up by antibiotics and another medical injury (as we have discussed). I can only eat highly fermented kefir. I drink Liberte Effervescent Kefir. That's the only one I can tolerate. Other kefir and yogurt I react to as I do other dairy. I get a return of my negative symptoms. I also am eating a lot of soluble fiber and taking acacia fiber to help feed my good bacteria. But, I know you have trouble with fiber. I'm in a microbiome study through ubiome, so I got some info about my microbiome that was helpful. I take probiotics also, but I don't know if they help. I take Progressive HCP150.

@BinaryPulsar @fishshark OK I have been taking it for 3 days and my gi symptoms are worse so I will try the effervescent (I was drinking the coconut normal Liberte).

not sure what your gi symptoms are like but if im having a flare up i cant take the kefir so i stick to the pill.., when im super constipated i drink it. I switch between the dairy and coconut/non dairy versions.

Oh, I hope it helps. Go slow. And listen to your body.

id slow it down until the diarrhea slows up. maybe stick to the probiotics for now.

Yeah, it's good to go slow and careful to not flare up symptoms too much. Don't want to overwhelm your body. The Liberte Effervescent Kefir is as good as homemade.
