Butter. It tastes better. My typical dose is a mere 6 grams, about 40 calories of pure bliss.

I love lurpack but go with the lighter version. It's 50 odd cals per 10g. A lot but when I cut it out I go back to it and put on again so I fit it in. A banana is nice on toast but it's a bit double carbs. I love peanut butter but it's not low cal. Honey is nice. Or egg mayo. Don't know if any are lower cal though.

You could try part skim yogurt or cottage cheese?

I like to rub a garlic clove on my toast (followed with cream cheese or butter though haha)

Came in to suggest an egg, but jemhh beat me to it! Heh...

    Whipped cream cheese, honey, jam..
Or maybe just get some of the flavored breads, like cinnamon or Pepperidge Farns caramel apple or something. Some of those are good on their own...

Although, how much butter are we talking? 1/2 tbsp of Kerrygold is about 5g of fat at the most...maybe you could reduce the amount of butter, or half butter, half honey?

I sometimes use philly cream cheese instead of butter to keep calories down. But don't be afraid of fat, fat is good and is needed by your body.

I can't think of anything I would put on toast that doesn't have any fat. I would just use less butter or cheese or whatever.
I guess there is honey, jam, mashed bannana, pureed fruit, mashed beans

Spread on some laughing cow cheese. 35 calories per wedge. Low fat.

Whatever. I feel you OP. I know there's nothing wrong with fat but I don't waste my fat calories on butter. I prefer to spread it out throughout the day and eat avocado and ice cream.

Have you tried using 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil? It spreads further than butter and provides a buttery flavor, but less calories and fat.

Toast drizzled with honey but of course I like the pairing of butter and honey a lot better
  • I love rice bran oil. Has a hint of buttery flavor without the overwhelming grossness of buttery-ness (I loathe the taste personally).

Everything's better with Blue Bonnet on it.

If you think it's butter but it's not. It's Chiffon.

I like greek yogurt spread on my toast--nonfat works fine. Sometimes I mix it with cheddar cheese powder -- doesn't take much, so it doesn't add a ton of fat.
Neufchatel (low-fat cream cheese) is also good.

You should have plenty of fat for butter (my choice, tastes better) plus some on salads, and toast plus butter is probably going to be more balanced and filling than just toast (although to be honest neither fills me up one bit). Are you on a very limited diet? (I understand there are medical reasons to reduce fat or sat fat sometimes, but if the concern is just weight loss going over on fat makes no difference, although I also found, for saving calories, just reducing the amount of butter or oil I used in cooking or on salads was useful -- a tsp and not a tbsp, that sort of thing.)

Another idea, not fat free, but with less fat, more protein in its overall calories, is to eat it with an egg and drip it in the egg (that's the main reason I ever eat toast in the morning) or to add hummus or baba ghanoush -- sounds good to me, actually!
