Within the past month, FitBit has estimated my heart rate each day to be between 50-57 bpm.

I'm generally between about 48 and 52. If it reaches 58-60 it's time to back off training a bit.

All the way from low 50s to low 70s depending on my stress levels and my calorie intake. When I do maintenance or higher than maintenance my heart rate is closer to 70s than 50s for a while. I've had some readings in the high 40s but these are infrequent.

in the 40s according to fitbit. I find that in the 50s means I've worked too hard and need a rest day.

    Oh bugger!
As I'm 56 and my RHR isn't on the chart does that mean I've died?

    Mid-to-high 40's. I'm 71 y.o. :)

Not running as much as usual, though (currently<30 mi/wk); then, it is usually in the range of high 30's to low 40's.

Heart rate really doesn't have much of anything to do with those categories. According to this I'm younger than 18yo athlete... which aside from obviously being wrong, the generalization that younger = lower heart rate is also wrong since children typically have higher heart rates than adults...

I'm a 53 year old man with a resting heart rate of 43. 7:25 mile, which is WAY off of my goal time of 6:00. I can't help but wonder whether there's more to the story than what's in that chart. Otherwise I would be more fit than I actually am.
