Accurate banana calories???

I eat a banana every day. Looked it up on the data base once, and log the same thing every day.
Kind of faster than weighing and logging, as it is just logging. One step eliminated.......bam!
Been doing this for over 4-1/2 years, almost 3 maintaining. Works great for me.

The biggest bananas I have ever had were about 120 grams and I thought they were gigantic. That's 107 calories. Most of my bananas are around 70-80 grams (60-70 calories) and the seasonal local ones I like the most are actually 50-60 grams (45-55 calories). I think 120 calories would be a very safe bet.

When I'm in a rush I either weigh with the skin on and save the peel for when I get back home, or overestimate it's weight. Some foods are a bit more tough to weigh when different things are happening but I don't quit eating them because it's harder to track it.0

Yeah, but just slightly over. Like 124 or something. I eat one every day almost so I go through a lot of bananas.0 -

Okay, this thread has sent me on a banana google spiral, and I must say I'm surprised. Apparently, bananas are barely 2/3 edible! So on average the peel makes up about 36% of the weight of a banana. That's interesting!1

Oh my goodness. If I have to do that I think I'll just give up bananas....not worth it! What big I want to plan my food ahead....I can't peel it in advance. Or if I want to take a banana out with me?
All fruit is going to have this same type of issue. Weigh the banana when you can, guesstimate when you can't.
Weighing your fruit (when you can) will give you more information for times you need to guess.1 -

I peel mine, weigh it, stick it back inside the peel, and then wrap it up tightly in saran wrap. It is perfectly fine at lunch you would never know it had been peeled that morning. And I hate brown-tinged bananas! If I am running late and don't have time for all that, I weigh it and take a photo of it on the scale. Then bring the peel home with me and weigh it that evening and adjust the calorie count as necessary. I always bring home the veggie refuse anyway for the compost pile so this is no big deal either.1

Haha thanks for all the replies. I have to say kudos to those people peeling, weighing, saving it in a ziplock bag, bringing it home, weighing the peel, and subtracting it...that is dedication!!!!
For me though life is too short...and also I just don't care that much. I think a safe over estimation is best. I'll log 120 if I have one.

I used to use 120 g as a safe bet -- I also think that's a pretty huge one, at least in my experience. 120 calories would certainly be more than safe.0 -

Overall, I find weighing much more convenient (not to mention accurate) than using measuring cups and spoons, so if I had to spend a few extra seconds on banana peels, it would be worth it to me.0 -
Can somebody PLEASE tell me how many cals no should log for one medium banana? When I search it, I'm seeing anything from 50-150.
Medium is all in the perception.
How much does that medium banana weigh?
I have a banana every morning, and a medium in my perception is about 120 grams. Smallish is around 100 grams, and large is about 145. So, you're generally looking at calories between approximately 100 and 145.

I weighed a half of a banana once and have eyeballed it ever since.
There are always calories in the banana stand.3 -

I used to always pick out the bigger bananas averaging around 165g = 147 calories

I had a 160g banana once but I still ate it. It was huge and it came from my teacher roommate's leftovers from the school lunch program. Bananas I buy in the store are usually about 100g because I go for the little lonely ones that got separated from their families.5

Oh boy... just give up food altogether if you cannot be bothered with weighing bananas. You will not get any accurate calorie counting done if you don't weigh your food.
If you get a 30gr serving of cookies that, according to the box, is 6 cookies, you may actually be eating 1.5 servings because cookies sometimes weigh much more than stated, so only way of knowing is getting measuring them with a food scale. And that for every food.2 -

Mine was just a suggestion.. cause I actually don't eat bananas unless it going in a banana split where I am at home making it..
I do not tote zip log bags around with peelings, apple cores, that's actually gross to me.. but if I had no wiggle room in calories, I might have to take it up... however, I am also one that would after about 5 times of logging pretty much know my size banana and can gauge the weight fairly accurately..

OP. If you're losing weight by logging the average banana and enjoy them, why worry? If not, and losing weight has stalled, giving up bananas because you don't want to/have time to weigh, suggests to me that you don't like them enough to fit them in.3

^^this is not totally true for everyone.
For some of us it is not necessary.
I get that some people greatly overestimate and then wonder why they are not losing.
However, many of us have lost weight by just using standard measuring cups/spoons, and serving sizes stated on packaging. I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for almost 3 years now. I used a scale to weigh food just a couple of times. I found it easier, and quicker for me, to use measuring cups and spoons. I am very good at estimating portion sizes now. I realize not everyone can do this, but there are many people that can.
As with most things related to losing weight, it is whatever works for each of us, and is sustainable for us to keep the weight off once we have met our goals.

I am a fan of weighing and think it's easier (at least for me) than estimating or trying to use cups (I don't cook using cups or spoons, so why people are so attached to them as a measurement is lost on me, I do prefer the scale), but this is an overstatement. Personally, I often didn't weigh fruit (if out and about) or was forced to estimate things when losing, and I never weighed a single serving packaged good. You simply don't need perfect accuracy (and won't get it anyway). You need to be honest with yourself and to cut back if you are eating too much and not losing.5 -
Look, OP, if you actually want accurate calories, then you're going to have to weigh your banana. There just isn't another way to be accurate. If you don't want to be accurate, then just guess.1

Take a Ziplock bags with you and save the peel and weigh it when you get home. I eat bananas a lot, but usually when I am at home and I find weighing them very easy. When I do take one with me I just weigh the whole thing and save the peel. It isn't that inconvenient.0
