Need help with balancing my diet

So all within this year, I have dropped almost 100lbs so far. It has been quite the roller coaster ride. I was diagnosed back in April with T2 diabetes after being hospitalized. They specifically told me that I needed to get on an LCHF diet to help myself. Up until recently that has been working great for me. My A1C is now stabilized with diet, exercise, and metformin. Unfortunately, I'm finding myself with more issues now. The doctor has since added me to a low dosage BP medication. I was not excited but i went with it. Recently, I did a blood panel to see how everything has been coming along. Now the Dr. is telling me that I have high cholesterol too and is trying to push statins. I tried bargaining with her about making further changes to avoid more pills. She basically said no but also has not yet sent any medications to the pharmacy. I am sure she will end up sending it eventually. What i need help with is that she told me NO i should not be eating an LCHF diet i need to be eating an LCLF diet along with low sodium. I'm losing hope here and hardly eat much of anything these days. How do i balance all of these 'guidelines' without losing my mind? What kind of diet can i follow? How do i balance things on labels now when i have so much to worry about already? How much is too much cholesterol? I eat basically nothing but light greek yogurt, eggs, low carb oatmeal, meat and a *kitten* ton of veggies and cheese. Although i am considerably smaller and feel better all around i also feel like my health is overall worse now than when I was 100lbs heavier. HELP!!??

It is all very confusing. I have cholesterol polyps even though I don't have high cholesterol. It can be genetic so diet isn't always that influential, but, if that was your situation you would think the Dr would explain it. You can eat low cholesterol and there are foods which lower cholesterol. Do you see the same Dr all the time or different ones? I have a Dr that I like and I will only see him so I don't get conflicting advice. I don't understand the suggestion of low fibre, my understanding is that fibre bands to cholesterol and reduces how much you absorb from your food.

I would get a second opinion. Either your doctor is diagnosing without all of the information or you are not understanding her correctly. You shouldn't get so much mixed diet advice, including some that would be dangerous based on subsequent diagnoses. Get a second opinion. If you trust the second doctor, maybe see if they have a dietitian that can set up and eating plan for you.

It was only mentioned that my cholesterol was 150 and she wants it at 70 due to diabetes. I see the same doctor all the time, but the different medical advice i have is from the ER doctor and nutritionist they had speak with me when i was hospitalized. My doctor never said i couldnt when i first told her their advice. At that time my a1c was through the roof and anything i ate with grains and such would spike my sugar ridiculously. I have been playing it up a bit now that it is more stabilized but not a whole lot. It sounds like I should experiment more with that...thank you as she does not really give much advice on what to eat but rather is quick to say i need meds for this or that...

true...but its hard to get a second opinion when you have a state funded medical insurance with a specific doctor set in stone unless you request a change through your insurance company :/ But im currently in the process of getting another job that has benefits so when that happens im hoping for something better...until then i have to go based off what shes telling me based on my blood test results..

Ask for a referral to a registered dietitian.

Good luck! Just try to eat healthful until then. Lots of veggies, lean protein and complex carbs. I really hate it when doctors just go to a bunch of medication. Medication is great if its necessary, but a lot of people could probably get off the medication (over time) if they improved their lifestyle.

I also have type 2 diabetes. I'd cut back on the eggs and cheese and use the mfp tracker to look at how much cholesterol you're taking in. Avocado has become a big staple for me. I also cut back on refined carbs and replaced them with black and garbanzo beans and low sodium Ezekiel bread. I have a long way to go on improving my veggie intake though!

Thank you! Trust me Ive been trying to eat healthy as much as possible i've made it my goal to get right with the diabetes ive cut out so much food, but it looks like i have more work to do! Yes i agree especially when they're jumping to medications when you're only showing borderline for illnesses just to be "safe"!

Thank you! I'm definitely going to have to try even though cheese is life and right i guess i need to use the app to its full advantage if im using it. Avocado is good too so that could be something to work with! I hardly eat beans anymore due to high carb count but when i do its usually black beans.YES I've recently seen the ezekiel bread but was skeptical on buying it because ive cut out bread so long it just doesn't taste that good anymore. Veggie intake is a hard one it took me a while to get into it but i found that if you experiment with different or multiple seasonings tossed lightly in olive oil and baked or even with a little mayo here and there it makes them much more desirable!
