Thanks for the response. My pdoc is not happy for me to have any antidepressants as I have a tendency towards mixed mania but I know others who have had success by changing things about.

I certainly dropped almost 4kg in the few weeks after stopping an atypical antipsychotics. Every time I was tried on another i would put that same weight on again, always abdominally which is somewhere I do not naturally store fat. For this reason I now only take them if absolutely manic.

It has allowed me to lose some weight, but still the lithium makes the process of losing any more very difficult.

I take eppilum or sodium valproate depending on your country. It's making weight loss hard as fark. Although it's doing wonders for my sanity. Damn stupid pills grrrr

These meds do make things harder!
Sometimes I take the attitude of vanity before sanity but realistically to keep my job and family and money and stay out of the psych ward I'm stuck with the lithium for now.

I am a nurse and have seen people gain very quickly on sodium valproate/epilim ... but if it works - sanity before vanity?

Please add me as a friend; I'll would love to able to get/give support to others that get the complexities of weight management on these sorts of medications.
