I saw my GP/Doctor and told me that the medication that I am taking has caused me to gain a few kilos(Lovan). After 9 months the doctor will half my dose so I can get back to healthy/normal weight. My dilemma is should I plan on losing weight now or when I half my dosage. Please be thoughtful, thank you.

Did your Dr tell you that there's no way you can lose weight being on this medication? If not then keep trying to lose weight now, just make sure you weigh and log everything you eat and don't go over your calorie allowance.1

Well of course you can integrate this with your current situation. There is always the right time to get your diet and exercise (if you do this) in order now or even after the drop in medication.
Since you have been discussing this with your doctor, has he/she provided any information as to good or bad about starting to eat in a calorie deficit to lose weight? Perhaps this is gonna be the first place you want to check as I have no idea what the medication is for, etc..

Medications can cause weight gain indeed. I have found it is important to not give up though. Keep exercising and eating healthy so the impact is minimal and you maintain lean muscle mass. This will make it easier when rhe dosage is reduced.
I was on a drug once that caused weight gain and it was 12 months after I stopped taking the drug before the weight shifted. But because I'd maintained my exercise and eating plans, when the 12 month point hit, the weight fell off rapidly.0 -
