I am 5'7" and 165 pounds. My triglycerides are at 577 and my cholesterol at 265. I want to and need to change this. I would also like to not ahve a belly and boobs. Welcome. I've been tracking for about 6 months. Its been a great lifestyle change. I can't say it's always easy, but it has been so worth it. Feel free to add me if you would like to.

At 5'7 and 165, you're only just outside the healthy BMI range. I'd recommend you look more at a recomp - start a good progressive weight lifting program, and eat at maintenance.

Meal plan! Planning meals ahead of time is key. Good luck. Exercise is the easy part, eating well is the hard part.

Set some measurable, reasonable goals. Those have kept me on target when I would have otherwise fallen off the wagon. My first goal was to run a 5k. My second goal was to run a faster 5k. Then on to marathons. Finally, the goal was to be in good enough shape to climb Mt. Rainier. For 2017, when I turn 49yo, my goal is to finish a 1/2 Ironman, with a full Ironman goal for my 50th birthday.

With the goals firmly in place, the diet and the exercise become the means to the end. I think some people fail because they make calories and the gym their focus. That can only take you so far.

So what are some goals you can do? Running a race? Biking a distance? Fitting into the jeans you wore in college? Backpacking a long trail? Find the goal to shoot for and then go after it with a fitness plan.
