I still have a ways to go, but I wanted to share my success thus far. I apologize for the pixelated image of me at my heaviest. I was never one for taking pictures at that point and I had to search out one taken by other people. The heavy picture was me this past February- the one of the right was yesterday. I have lost 82 pounds in that time- from 278 to 196. No surgery, no gimmicks. This is pure lifestyle change. Happy Sunday all- and thanks for letting me share.

I don't really have many setbacks, but one of the hardest things for me to change was my love of sweets. I cut off all processed sugars and I swear I felt like I an addict going through withdrawls. It was very rough for the first 2 months. Now, I just remember how it feels to feel how I did, and that's enough to bring me back to my reality.

The biggest part was finding the right food and exercise for my body. I cut out all processed carbs and sugar. I eat fruit, mostly berries, and only in the morning. Basically, I eat a lot of meat, fish, greens, and fat- (mostly from cheese, nuts, and yogurt).
As for exercise- the first 4 months (I started in April) I swam at least a mile and 1/2 five days a week and played disc golf (hiking with frisbees)almost everyday. 2 months ago I started working with a trainer. Just straight weights and body weight work, and on my off days I swim. The swimming really helps stretch my muscles and provide some good resistance. The weightlifting is helping with body composition.
But again, the biggest factor was nailing down what my body responds to. Some people can eat the sugars and bread and other stuffs, but I most definitely can't. My body likes the food I've been using to fuel it so far, so I'm sticking with it!

Thank you for your response cagehringer! You are very motivating and inspirational!!!! I can learn from you. I also can't eat much in the way of sugar. I swear it is an addiction, too. I love that the swimming helps with the stretching. I am very much lacking in that stretching department, plus you get the cardio. I could ramp up the exercise even more. The fat is interesting. Do you go by grams a day? What a great job you have done and are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first 2 months sugar free were insane. It occupied almost my every thought. The more I read about sugar and the mind/body connection the more I am convinced I was addicted. Super vicious cycle.
I used the MFP diary app at the beginning, but I am one of those people who can eat the same thing all the time and not get bored. But when I do track, I take in about 45%- 50% of my calories from fat. But it comes from all kinds of foods. Mostly the nuts and I go full fat with yogurt and salad dressing. I try to get at least 35% or more of my calories from protein, and usually stay under 20% carbs. I eat on average 20-25 grams of sugar a day. Almost all is naturally occuring.5 -
That's amazing-you should be very proud of yourself. Congrats-you look fabulous!!0

By the way did you find you could keep the calories lower or did you not worry about them, because those percentages were working and as long as you felt comfortably full? My protein has been at 35%, but my fat and carbs are probably opposite of what you are doing and I feel tired at this point a lot. Nice going and thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really stringent with my calories when I first started in April for about the first 5 months, until I started incorporating weight training 2 months ago. I eat pretty boring, so I pretty much have nailed down the calories for my meals and I tend to not worry so much anymore.
Maybe you should experiment with switching up the carb/fat intake and see how that works. Your body could be turning all the carbs you are eating into sugar and tiring you out. I know when I first cut carbs it was rough, but my energy is through the roof now.2 -
You are a great role model to your girls! Great job and thank you for sharing your journey.
