I am completing day 29! I feel so good that I am planning on continuing indefinitely... with wine. I will also enjoy a treat every so often without feeling bad. Before this whole 30, I was out of control. My dad passed away in October and I allowed myself to be comforted by food... like donuts and ice cream and french fries. I was not going a day or even a meal without dessert. I cut down on added sugar for 2 weeks before I felt ready to go full force into the whole 30. It has been such a good thing for me. I am so ready to have a glass of wine in another 2 days, but otherwise, I am mostly ready to just keep on keeping on.
I am so sorry for your loss!!!! I know exactly how you feel! I lost my dad a year and a half ago and have tried to stuff down my pain with food. He lived with me for the last 8 years of his life and I took care of him. He was my first love and I dreaded losing him. I thought I would never recover. I wouldn't say that I ever will be over it but I am healing and know that overeating doesn't help anything and food really isn't that comforting. Back on a primal whole 30 way of eating starting yesterday and feel hopeful.
Thanks for sharing your story!0 -
I'm starting Monday...so nervous, but excited too! Would love to read stories or befriend anyone who can offer encouragement. I think I'm most worried about sugar...not even for like desserts, but in cooking.1

I thought the point of Whole 30 was to recognize food sensitivities, not for weight loss? Either way, anything that makes you feel like this is not for me:

Hello. I am starting my first Whole 30 tomorrow morning. I'm really hoping that I can stick to it. I did South Beach for a month and felt fabulous. The only real big difference between the first two weeks of that and this program is no dairy on the Whole 30. I will miss my cheese as it was a go to snack for me.0

Just started my 2nd Whole 30 on the June 20th after doing the first one about a year ago. Lost 9 lbs. Went on a retreat on Day 31, so didn't do the 10 day food reintroduction, which defeats the purpose.
This round I've already lost 7 lbs in 4 days - I'm sure that was a lot of water weight, but can totally see it in my face and my skin is starting to glow. My goal is 30 more lbs off before Thanksgiving. I'm choosing to make this a lifestyle, and commit to the reintroduction so I can learn how different foods affect me. Then design a lifestyle that allows me to maintain my new weight and feel amazing. This program teaches you to nourish yourself with so much nutritious food, I'm focusing on all the wonderful foods I can eat, rather than what is off limits. Love the healthy full fats, and most of all, not counting calories! Please add me to this group!0 -
I'm on day 15 of my whole thirty (half way!) and I'm feeling pretty great. I was a little bummed that I wasn't getting the same results of my last one, just the initial drop in lbs from cutting out most carbs, so I added in IF and saw another quick drop. You're actually not supposed to weigh yourself during the thirty days, but I'm not going 100% this time. After the (pretty) strict thirty days, I'm transitioning to paleo with occasional treats. I've just found its the "diet" that works best for me. Counting calories turns obsessive and goes towards old disordered eating patterns. I've gotten over the cravings and the sugar detox and I haven't gotten the Tiger Blood yet, but I'm feeling pretty great.1

I just started my first Whole30 on Monday, so it's Day 3 for me. I'm actually blogging on MFP each day during this, and am logging my food- feel free to add me if you're curious to see what it's like. I'm sure it's a different experience for everyone but it's helped me a lot to see what others on the plan are doing and how it's going for them, so maybe this can help others too.
For me personally, I was feeling a lot of angst and frustration long before I even knew what Whole30 was. I was drinking too much, frustrated by the scale going up and down, angry at myself for every slip-up, and sick of the constant debates in my head. "Can I have that? Do I have enough calories left? Did I work out enough? I deserve a treat. But I might gain weight. Can I make up for it tomorrow?" I do believe in "anything with moderation" but it hasn't been working for me. Learning to moderate can be just as difficult as cutting something out entirely, maybe more so because "a reasonable amount" is somewhat subjective and can easily lead to a "just one more" mentality that snowballs out of control. I decided to start off with a clean slate by sticking to this plan for one month, and I will evaluate my results at the end of it.
I don't enjoy having to say no to cream in my coffee, or turning down pizza, or not having my glass of wine after work. But I also don't enjoy heartburn, digestive issues, and allergies. I DO enjoy the simplicity. I no longer have to debate what I should or shouldn't have, or what I can "make work." The answer to every "can I have this?" question is a simple Yes or No. My last grocery shopping trip was the easiest, quickest, and cheapest EVER, and I'm actually putting aside some of the money that would normally have gone to a restaurant! I'm already learning to identify real hunger from boredom hunger, and learning to control portion sizes (it's easier to stop at one piece of salmon than one piece of pizza). I'm looking forward to feeling better mentally and physically, and applying what I learn after the plan is done. Yes, I will eat cheese and bread again, and I will drink wine, but I hope that the habit of eating clean for a month combined with what I learn will help me have those things in moderation without the constant stress of internal debates. And hey, if it turns out I'm allergic to dairy (which is totally possible- I tested allergic as a kid but thought I grew out of it) or whatever else, then I'll know to limit it instead of considering it a staple.
To each their own but I figure it can't hurt to try. I'm not starving myself, following something that's impossible or unhealthy to stick with, and I didn't spend any money other than the food I bought- no special products involved. The book is recommended to better understand why certain foods can be potentially an issue for some people, but the plan itself and virtually all the resources needed are available for free on the website.5 -

12th Day of Whole30 and have lost 8 lbs. went out to dinner on Friday and a girls night Last night and had no problem staying on plan. (usually I would have had alcohol or gone off plan). i drank sparkling water with lime in a wine glass and didn't miss a beat. It was super easy to order salmon grilled with olive oil, steamed vegies no butter and salad with oil and vinegar when out to dinner. At girls night i enjoyed fresh fruit and skipped the chips cheese and crackers. Very rewarding to see the scale deop another pound! I can make this a lifestyle after reintroduction... Woop!0

Haha, just realized I am "cheating" by weighing myself! I'm also enjoying Califia unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk in my coffee. It is caresgeenan free and compliant! Yes! This food plan is making me very happy. Doesn't feel like a diet. This is my new normald and for the first time in decades I have every confidence that this time I will reach a healthy weight , sray there, and enjoy my life.1

I'm starting my 2nd Whole30 today. Add me if you'd like to! We can support each other.
Caveat: I do weigh myself daily which is against the rules.
It truly motivates me to keep going and going.0 -
I am going to start on Sunday July 17th and am looking for a support network.1

can't people learn to be positive towards others' fitness journey, even if it's not their cup of tea?0 -
I'm on day 9 of Whole 30 and survived a trip to Vegas and was Whole30 compliant the whole time. Fortunately I had some great friends who were also eating healthy so we held each other accountable.
What I have been doing is logging a diary entry into a journal to see how I am feeling, it allows me to look back at items that trigger my inflammation and gastroparesis. What I have been noticing in these 9 days is that my patience with people have drastically shortened, so I excuse my self and take short walks often. Also, the taste of fruit is inexplicably sweet to me. I have bad allergies, and my congestion is a lot better, to the point that when someone is drinking a diet soda next to me I can smell the artificiality of it to the point it is noxious.
What also helps me stay on track is posting a motivational quote each day and recapping my day. It helps me practice gratefulness as well.

Is anyone out there still doing this? I have been easing towards it for a week and will start full throttle tomorrow. I read It starts withFood last year and did it for 30 days. Now I am getting the other book called The Whole 30. Any differences? Suggestions? I have an addiction to popcorn!2

I'm just beginning Whole 30. I'm also eliminating nightshades & egg whites to follow the chronic pain plan for migraine.0

My wife, daughter and I finished a Whole 30 on Sept 20.
We started because my daughter was always bloated and headache-y. It's been remarkable. We learned that dairy and wheat are verboten for our daughter. We all lost weight, as a bonus. I haven't had a drink in 65 days, which is probably the longest stretch since high school,0
