Just google the link between thyroid issues and Vitamin D deficiency - there is a ton of information out there, you will be shocked, I know I was.

You need a second opinion. I went through something similar and couldn't believe the change once I actually got medication.

Have you had your Vitamin D level checked......I had to have my thyroid exploded with radioactive iodine 21 years ago and take a synthetic replacement.....BUT I had these symptoms you are saying like 2 yrs ago....it ended up I was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY low on VIT D......since I have upped it, all symptoms are G O N E! (just a thought)'

This is one smart poster. As I was reading this thread the thing that was yelling out at me was Vitamin D deficiency. Either have your doctor test you or just start taking 1000 mg of Vitamin D3 a day. A doctor suggested it to me a few months ago (without a test), within 1 month I felt like a whole new person. More energy than I know what to do with now, not more depression, no more muscle aches, etc. I have since read about some great benefits to D, lower cancer, better immune system. Definitely worth looking in to.

Already been there done that. Vitamin d was low about six months ago, now it's fine after taking prescription meds for it for 10 weeks.

Have you had an ultrasound done? I was hyperthyroid for several months and the first thing they did was an ultrasound as well as some test where i had to take a radioactive pill and come in every few hours for scans. I have 2 nodules on both sides of my thyroid that caused a brief bout of thyroiditis which made me go hyper.

My levels are normal now, but I still have to come in a get them checked as well as yearly ultrasounds to make sure the nodules aren't growing

    get checked for PCOS
    it has very similar symptoms

I actually don't have any of the symptoms of pcos except weight gain and acne. My periods are super close (20ish days) apart and heavy, like set my alarm clock to change my overnight protection more than once a night heavy. I have dry flakey skin that cracks, not oily skin and I don't have dandruff, I have hair loss.

Oh and no infertility. Lol. Four kids in 6 years.

    well i have PCOS
    i have a child
    i dont have dandruff
my skin is dry not oily
    and my hair falls out
i also have heavy irregular periods

sorry was just trying to help ...hope you find what your looking for
and remember everyone is differnt and may not have every symptom listed on google:flowerforyou:

Do you have irregular periods in the sense that you have them every three weeks and they're horribly heavy? From what I understand of PCOS, and mind you, Im not a doctor, and I dont play one on tv, but from what I gather, its an imbalance of male hormones, which cause periods to be further apart, hence the whole infertility thing, which by the way, i know is not 100% infertility.

If anything, I would say I have an estrogen type dominance of out of whack hormones, not androgen.

ive met many women with PCOS
    some have periods every 2weeks
    some have non stop bleeding
    some have 1 or 2 a year
and some have no periods at all
i have heavy periods i get them monthly but they vary from 28day to 33day cycle

but thats just me..not saying you have PCOS just saying that the symptoms are different for each person

The polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) includes a wide spectrum of clinical symptoms and signs

What ever happened to the original poster? What did it end up being? Right now I'm having an issue, and my symptoms are similar to hers, with my thyroid registering what hers was.

Also PCOS classic case here. All the symptoms and 4 kids. PCO and PCOS are 2 different disorders. One is an endocrine disorder originally called Stein Leventhal Syndrome which affected men and women equally, until it was split to PCOS for women and Metabolic Syndrome X for men. Sons and brothers of women with PCOS have this and it can be attributed to developmental delays in some cases. Meaning PCOS has a hereditary component. Can be caused by or cause a fluctuation in both androgen and/or estrogen dominance or both.
PCO is just ovaries with multiple cysts. You can have multiple cysts anywhere on your body. Poly cystic means multiple cysts, and you need an endo not a gyno.

I thought something must have been wrong with my thyroid and had extensive tests done only to find out that I was anemic, and had a Vit D and B12 deficiency. I was put on B12 shots and take a Vit d supplement (take with Vit c for proper absorption). I have gotten much better but still had symptoms. Then my b/c ran out that I've been on for years. My dr wouldn't refill it until I have a visit with him. I've been off of it for a month and my anxiety disappeared and I dropped 3 pounds. I think it was messing with my hormones.

I don't think this poster has been around for quite a while, this thread is very very old..

All of these could be symptoms of dehydration! You mentioned postpartum. Are you breastfeeding? If so, you probably need at least 3 litres of water a day.

I went through years of testing and lab work before my Hashimotos got diagnosed. When I developed a multi nodual goiter they finally ran a full panel. I didnt know most doctors only check tsh, and people with my type of thyroid disease can have normal tsh levels while everything else is off. I dont know if you have this condition but I encourage you to check with your doctor to see if a full panel with t4, free t3, and reverse t3 was ran. If it wasnt than insist that they run one.

First you need a reference to a different specialist. Never trust a doctor that doesn't take you seriously or says it's all in your head. NEVER.

It probably is some kind of autoimmune/thyroid thing but have you checked your diet for deficiencies? Not getting enough iodine can affect your thyroid- do you get enough? Anemia can cause all of those same symptoms - how are your iron and hemoglobin levels? What about vitamin D? B12? B2? B3? Magnesium?? Need to get a full blood panel. Also have them check your hormone levels and run a thorough thyroid levels test, not just the standard basic one that's part of a normal blood panel.

Also how tall are you and your weight & age? 2000 calories seems high for weight loss unless you're tall or very active. Thats more like maintenance calories for most females. Abtually thats 200 calories above maintenance for me.

Considering your close heavy periods I really think it could be severe anemia- do NOT IGNORE THIS.... anemia is so common that most people don't think of it as serious but I LITERALLY ALMOST DIED FROM IT and had most of the same symptoms you have. Don't convince yourself it's thyroid until you have your iron and hemoglobin levels checked- it's a simple test and could save your life.

It could also be a combination of deficiencies like anemia, low iodine, and low vitamin B or D. Please do get a full blood panel test.

Sorry one more thing - how is your protein intake? I had the cracked feet dry skin brittle hair thing even after I was no longer anemic until I upped my protein intake to 100 grams a day. All better now after a few months of that. I used to get only 20 or 30 grams of protein a day and that's way below the 46 gram minimum (that's for a sedentary female that does not exercise- you need more if active/exercising, that's why I do 100 grams). I also notice I have more energy now, feel stronger, and feel like my immune system is better too now that I get plenty of protein.

How many grams of protein do you get a day?

Maybe PCOS+ fibroids...but that is NOT typical for PCOS at all.

The OP needs an opinion from a second Endo.
