yep. a dog lunged at mine and he lunged back and i went down hard. twisted my knee and my ankle and it kept me from running for about 3 weeks. luckily i was close to the house. unluckily i was "the girl who fell" to my neighborhood for a few months and got asked about it regularly. the other dog owner had a big mouth and seemed to have told everyone in a 2 mile radius. her husband walks the dogs now as he has better control of them but i still slow down if i see them and make sure that we give them a wide berth.

Yup happened to me. Tripped getting back up on the curb after getting off to let someone with a dog have the sidewalk who was coming towards me. Fell so hard I hit my head on the ground. Gave up running for two years after that. Finally got back to it recently.

Btw I am so sorry to read of everyone's running injuries but I have to say you all have made me feel better. I seriously felt like such an idiot when it happened to me.

On a long, high altitude hike, I tripped over a little rock, fell on my face and broke my glasses. I am forever falling but I'm getting good at not injuring myself. :D

I will take a short run with my 3 year chocolate lab about once a week, not too long ago she just decided to freak out when we approached a big green garbage can in the street (it was garbage day) and as I did not notice a thing... she stopped in her tracks and well I went right over her head first into the big green garbage can.. made a huge *kitten* out of myself in front of my neighbors.. good times.. :)

If you run- at some point- you'll fall. That's an unfortunate side effect of running or walking. LOL

You are not alone- as you can see here!

I cannot think of a time when I have fallen on a run, which means, now that I have said that, this thread has jinxed me and it is bound to happen some time in the next few days!
    Thanks a lot, people.....

Not fallen yet, but during a recent road race the kid in front of me suddenly stopped to tie his shoelace. I somehow managed to leapfrog him and got a high-five from a couple of spectators. As I went past, I heard his mom yelling at him to move to the sidewalk next time his shoelace came undone.
  • Haha, I kinda love this thread....and YES /:

Oh, yeah. It's not even a good story. I don't know what went wrong - there was no dog, no pothole, nothing slippery, no obstruction or explanation. Just tripped over my own feet and went down.

Only on a treadmill. In a crowded gym. In the FRONT ROW.

    Guess this topic got resurrected.
But yes, very recently! About a month ago I was running a fairly slow pace per doc's orders and tripped on my foot, went flying across the sidewalk. Thankfully there was no one around to witness it. Scrapped up my knee, arms and hands pretty bad, even banged up my chin. It looked like i got into a fight. I still had 2 miles left so i got up and kept going. More annoyed that i scratched up my new Fitbit and Brooks.

LOL. Hope you were OK. I've seen someone do that. Apparently he had a bit of a brain-fart and completely forgot he was on a treadmill so when he stopped to adjust his clothing, he went flying off the back.

Several times, once I was running on the sidewalk on a very busy road. As it was leading up to a bridge over a river the sidewalk narrowed to about one foot wide. It was then that I cought a toe on a large stick. I remember wondering if I was going down the embankment, hitting the bridge or going into traffic. I was able to find the narrow sidewalk but managed to tear my brand new shoes.

Pretty sure only you have fallen down while running. Everyone else is just lying to make you feel better. I certainly have NEVER fallen down while running. Plus, i cycle, and i have certainly never fallen over because i forgot to un-clip from my pedals when stopping. Nope, And for sure that's never happened at least once a year.

I use to do trail runs, so I tripped a lot.

Yes. Once a year, it seems. Dealing with a broken finger from a fall right now. :(

I don't even care that this is a zombie thread because I fell RUNNING FROM ZOMBIES. Well, using the app. At dusk, on a deserted dirt road. Skinned my knee, cracked my phone, got up and kept running because THEY WERE AFTER ME!

I did a couple of weeks back on a cruise ship. Was trying the treadmill for the first time in my life. I was running and listening to music and everything was right in the world. Then suddenly a man comes up behind me, and I turned to see who it was.

Guess I dont have to explain what happened next.

I've fallen more times than I can count. My knees are all scarred up. During a trail relay a couple years ago we had a really bad storm that turned the whole course into a muddy bog. I ran four legs and fell 5 times. My latest was about six weeks ago; three weeks before I had to wear that <--- bridesmaid's dress. I tripped over a root, slid on a rocky area on the trail, scraped up my leg from ankle to hip and tore a big nasty hole in the palm of my hand. No one who knows me is surprised when I hit the ground.

Anyway, the main thing to be aware of is pausing your Garmin

Yup- then ran another 6 miles.
    Right of passage!
