It depends on their reasoning. For me, I know it's time to quit cold turkey because even two cups a week will give me a headache. Once I quit and wait a few weeks, the headaches go away and I can add coffee back in.0 -

Yeah but sugar and caffeine at the same time.. Withdrawal from caffeine alone is hard cold turkey depending on how much you consume in a day.
Now the sugar thing, I do not get at all. I get weeding out calorie dense foods to have a better balanced macros, but the whole sugar is evil thing..don't get that all.
To each their own..

I don't think sugar is evil, but I think cutting out drinks that are too sugary is a good idea. Like missbgiff said, eating calories is better. Drinks with a lot of sugar are usually a lot of calories, and if you want to make the most of your allotted calories, empty calories are kicked to the curb.0 -

All calories, contain energy & thus aren't empty but otherwise, I agree!0 -

Well I mean empty as in they don't provide any vitamins or nutrients to the body.0 -

I know, you're intelligent but I am technical, especially for those; whom might not understand that concept!0 -
No caffeine?... yikes. I tried that for a few days. People were begging me to drink my morning coffee [I have no idea why ] but I couldn't stop. I just needed it for humans sake ha
Good luck to you though0 -
I tried that once when I was planning an outdoor backpacking trip where I would be in the wilderness for several days. I was successful at reducing caffeine, but went right back to it.
Now... if I'm going out into the wilderness for an overnight trip, I'm taking coffee. Even if I plan to eat all food that doesn't require cooking, I'm still going to bring a stove just so I can make coffee.0 -

Agreed!!
I did cut drinking my calories.. I like eating mine a lot better. I still enjoy my ice cream, Oreos, chocolate chip cookies etc.. and do not restrict a lot in this area.. I do now drink diet sodas..caffeinated or caffeine free. Heck even decaf coffee has some caffeine..
Like I said on the same day/week caffeine and sugar withdrawal.. would come a lot of discomfort for me..
Caffeine is actually an appetite suppressant for some..and energy booster.. There were a lot of threads about this in the main forums.. I still hold true to my convictions on the sugar is evil and caffeine is not bad.

Nah. Nothing in moderation is bad...except meth.0 -

I was down to one can of Zero a day, when I quit caffeine (we ran out and I knew I'd get a headache anyway), I had that headache for just the first day. I credit the one headache to weaning, otherwise I would've suffered for at least three days. Caffeine intake was coincidental, I did not drink it because I couldn't function without it, I just like soda and tea.
I was afraid I would not be able to have it without getting hooked again, but I found I am okay to have the occasional caffeinated drink (once or twice a month).0 -
I tried doing that. Good luck. Mine was in espoused to my GERD. Then, i found that losing weight and eating healthy helped my GGER. Now, I make iced coffee concentrate and mix that with my Powerful Yorgurt drink for a protein rich iced coffee in the mmorning.
To each their own! Good luck! Stay hydrated! Great job on cutting the sugary drinks!0 -

I had a stomach upset and didn't drink coffee for about 3 days I had a constant headache for 48 hours from the withdrawal. Missing the coffee hurt more than the illness0

Good Luck, I cut back to 1 tsp of sugar and use a little less creamer. If you take my coffee... I'm not getting out of bed.
BTW, I found that I had headaches sometimes but it was because I drank coffee first thing in the morning. Now I drink water first, then coffee about one hour after I get up. I know that that will not work for everyone but it worked for me.0 -
littlemissbgiff wrote: »I don't think sugar is evil by any means. But my coffee costs 175 calories in creamer. Just not worth it to me. If I could take my coffee black, I would. I'm not woman enough yet maybe.
175 cals in creamer, that's like 1/2 cup creamer, right?0 -

I found this video to be exactly what I went through (except the constipation part) when I stopped the last couple of times. I want to replace coffee with healthy homemade smoothies and water. Coffee is a work need, not a physical need. I do not drink coffee on off days, so I can go a full week (vacation) without, but as soon as I start working again I need one in the morning. I have to pick a and just make it happen, permanently this time.
