So on a good exercise day...

I've exercised a lot today, simple because I've had the time and always have the energy.

Now what though? I've logged it all and I want to know should I eat up the calories in food to get near the 0 balance? Or otherwise?

you don't have to eat them ALL back but make sure your balance is more then 1200, anything else could send your body into starvation mode and actually make you gain.
  • Wow, you have tons of calories left to eat!! Enjoy (= lol

If this is an exceptional day, just eat your fill abd stay within your cals.

If this is something you do regularly - a few days a week- then you should try to figure out how to eat your cals back.

Starvation mode kicks in after pro-longed undereating. Just like a big over day here and there isn't all that detrimental, a day here or there really under isn't a big deal.

I have the best success on days where I eat the bulk of my exercise calories back. I typically eat between 2000 and 2400 calories a day but net less than 1900 and lose weight regularly. It was a challenge to deal with the extra calories on big days (on my bike riding days I burn over 800 calories), but I've come up with strategies. You're welcome to browse my diary if you like. Yogurt mixed with nuts and fresh fruit are one of my favorite big calories snacks!
  • I have the time for these types of thousand calorie workouts maybe twice a week. The rest, I shoot for 200.

Also any and all feel free to add me, I like reading and encouraging everyone. (Vice Versa too)

Make sure you are looking at your Net more than the total. I know that it can be really difficult because you feel like you need to eat so much more... but that food is going to give you the energy to continue to excersize and stay active.

The important thing is to eat the good things and not the bad things. Protein, protein, protein has worked for me. I like Whey shakes because they are loaded with protein and have a decent amount of calories (110- 130). But on days when you know you will have the time to work out and burn a lot plan to take in more.
