My problem is the way he explained it is my body can't process fats, starches, and sugars instead of getting rid of it, it holds on to it my bad chochsterol naturally runs high and good runs low like 20 something so the less I eat the better my body works but not giving up can't

Hi Michelle, welcome to the site!

When you say you've been "trying" to lose, what exactly have you been doing in the past and why do you think it hasn't worked? (I'm not talking about "genetics" being the cause, but about how you felt about the process, what sort of things you tried, what made you stop trying.)

Like @Noel_57 said, if genetics is to blame then many people would have no hope at all. Take a look around the Success Stories forum and see how many have changed themselves and their lifestyles for the better. It's inspiring! Regardless of what your doctor said, you have no reason not to try.

Check out these posts, set up your profile correctly, and start weighing and logging everything you eat and drink accurately. Don't try to change everything at once, take it slowly and allow yourself to slip up now and again without beating yourself up over it. See what happens. :)

Getting under 200lbs is a great first goal, then set more weight and general fitness goals from there. Don't look at the whole thing as an impossible obstacle - break it down into smaller milestones, and it'll be much easier to manage mentally and emotionally. Personally I'm convinced that weight loss is as much (if not more) a mental game than a physical one. I was afraid of being hungry and deprived of my favourite foods, and sure that I was far too lazy to ever lose weight. I was wrong! I've lost 45lbs this year through just learning to eat less, whilst still being almost as lazy. ;)

I wish you luck on your journey - don't let that doctor make you give up on yourself, prove him wrong!!

edit: Just saw your latest post - if you have issues where you can't eat certain foods then that makes it more challenging, but not impossible. Fats are important for the body (and, I think I read, especially for the brain), so hopefully there are some that you'd be able to process. Perhaps ask your doc for a referral to a registered dietician who can help you figure out what you can and can't eat, and go from there?

The specialist gave me a list for meat its turkey, chicken, veal, non fatty meats, non fat dairy, no chocolate there's even a lot of fruit that I can't eat fat has to be 1.5 or less per serving and sugars as close to zero as possible wish is hard cause I'm a diabetic but sometimes it drops you would be shocked at what I can't have including my favorite foods but I'm not giving up I won't for me, my kids and grandkids

I know I can do it but it's going to be harder for me cause my body works best with less food then a normal person
