Not knowing when I weigh in really helps!

I, much like the vast majority of everyone on here have self sabotaged themselves at some point in the weight loss process. I know I used to do it pretty much every week. I would weigh in Monday morning feel good about myself, have a couple of good days followed by the midweek blow out which would last 1 or two days. I would then spend the rest of the week desperately trying to compensate for the 5K of extra calories i'd probably destroyed without even thinking about it.
I am very fortunate to have a very supportive girlfriend who has seen me struggling with the getting the last bit of weight off for best part of a year now.
She recently decided that maybe we should try something new. A surprise Weigh in. Meaning I record my weight and measurements on a bit of paper and then she writes a date for my weigh in on it sometime this month. I have no idea when it will be and I will be told as we go to bed that tomorrow will be weigh in day.
I have found over the last 2 weeks I has really focussed my mind and helped me to control the urges to go mad with the food.
I write this not as a suggestion for something your should do but merely to give you an possible idea on a way to tackle the mid week binge eat that I imagine many of you face dealing with every week. It may work for you or may not but it can't hurt to try maybe.

How interesting.
I can see how this could encourage a person not to go full-on binge on any given day.1 -
Like a surprise UA...5

Exactly. I have had 'naughty' foods but because of the unknown I have kept it in the realms of a coulee of jaffa cakes or a posh yoghurt rather than a a packet of doughnuts and a 12'' meatball subway!!!1 -

Interesting! When I was with Weight Watchers, I would always be good all week leading up to my Friday weigh-in and then blow it on the weekend thinking I had the time to work it off. Nope! And I never made it to my goal weight...
Good luck with this method! Props to your gf for thinking of it.2 -
Great idea!

Update:
2 surprise weigh in's now complete over what amounts to about 5 weeks.
5 Kgs down so far and other than a couple of days where I logged over my usual daily allowance its been really successful
So if your someone who has a mid week sabotage and then tries to recover by the time the next weigh comes round, get your OH on board and start down the road of the unknown!2 -
This is such a great idea! I know weigh-in day sometimes feels like a dark cloud hanging above my head and I think random weigh ins would maybe help with some of the anxiety around it, and encourage healthy habits all week long.0
