Your Future Self

Diet and exercise are activities you do to be kind to your future self.
What other things do you take time or effort to do be nice to yourself in the future?
One thing I did this year was get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas early, so I can be relaxed and not stressed in December. When I opened the box of decorations and the tree box, I was so happy!
I had forgotten that I took the time to put things back in an organized way, separating the tree branches by level, writing down instructions, etc.
I thank God for leading me to do things that make life go a bit smoother.
What things have you done in the past that benefit you now, and what things are you doing now to make things better or easier for you later?
Do you have suggestions on things we can do?

One thing a friend of mine did was skin care. We were very young, yet she spent no time or money putting on makeup or dolling up her hair. She spent her money and time on skin care. No surprise she has great looking skin.1

I got really skinny in the past 4 months so I can get fat again over the holidays..really I did.. I am bulking from Nov till March or longer.
So I really do just take care of myself everyday, every week to get to the next day..
eta I do bake and give it a way.. baking is fun and a stress reliever for me.

That seems like excellent planning - you didn't choose to bulk now and cut during the holidays when it's harder. Makes a lot of sense!1 -

Cutting over the holidays is a recipe for disaster..LOL0 -
OP, you're smart for putting away your Christmas decorations in an organized manner. I love putting them up, but hate taking them down so I tend to do it hastily and then can never find what I'm looking for the next year.
As for the rest of the holidays I'm pretty organized when it comes to food and cooking and events. I plan ahead and do as much as I can in advance so on the actual day of the holiday I can relax and not be stressed.1 -

People do dumb stuff like this all the time. People try to begin a gym habit in January when it is dark and cold and you have to shovel snow?1 -
For self? The usual suspects like a will, 401k etc. Primarily - Everything I can for my soulmate/wife...God's been very good to us, and I want to leave as much of that as possible for her should anything happen to me - good memories, no bitterness.
For anything else - I do volunteer work with local at risk kids through a foundation set up by a couple of really awesome folks. I'm very blessed to have that opportunity.
It still doesn't feel like enough though6 -

Oh, man, that's awesome! I love how you see your volunteer work for OTHERS as being kind to your future self.
And the thoughtfulness toward your wife.
Made me smile.1 -

I'm not sure if this counts as being kind to my future self, but @Grey_1's description of his "gratitude storehouse" made me think of something I do each year before Christmas. I spend the month or so before consciously capturing little moments I see that embody love. It can be anything from a schoolboy holding an umbrella over his little sister at the bustop or a girl and her grandma walking arm in arm at the mall or, if I'm very lucky, it's something that happens in my own house. I give myself the "gift" of taking the time to observe it and sometimes I will write the memory of each thing down in a little notebook. As the season gets busier and busier, and I'm tempted to stress out about material things, I think about these little acts of love and try to remember what it's all about.5

Mines more broad spectrum -
Working a ton - to fund my studies
Studying - to qualify as a practitioner
Future benefit - life stability, support family / self.
Ultimately, I try to something every week to improve my prospects. I think. Too much!2 -
"Kind to future self". Now you introduce the concept to me. I could have done something kind for me if I'd thought of it that way when I was 16-53.1

I gave some jackets and blankets away. They were taking up room, the jackets don't fit anymore (too big now), etc. Gave them to some homeless people - this is a major city, there are plenty. Kind to my current self because altruism feels good; kind to my future stuff because I have to move in Feb and it'll be easier without that stuff.2

Jerome, didn't you hear that many people do their most impactful contribution/work after 60?
What are you thinking of doing now that your 60+ self would be happy you did now?0 -
Years of using sunscreen has benefited me up to now and hopefully for many more years to come.
Now I'm trying to stay fit, eat well and exercise so I can God willing I will live to a healthy old old age!2 -

Hopefully my future self in December will be happy I don't have to put up a Christmas tree, because it's already done:

So no one made any suggestions!
Because I am looking for them!0 -
Invested in real estate to soon be mortgage free. We will be selling our large home to buy a smaller one in a better location without having to pay a mortgage.
What will this do for us? We want to spend more time traveling the world.0 -

For you in particular I would say...
Give yourself "me" time. Make sure that you are taking care of you. It might seem selfish, but it's not. Everyone needs self maintenance & care and love in order to be happy and project positive vibes to the people around you. Keep in mind that no matter what is happening in your surroundings, you are the only one running your life, and only you is in control of the next step ahead.

That's very insightful. This was not a general advice, but for me in particular. Do you see something in me that screams, she really needs to take care of herself and get more me time?0 -
My husband and I owned a business for 23 years, raised our boys to be productive and responsible members of society, and I worked flltime in education while we ran our business together. We estimated that we completed our lifetime work hours and then some in those 23 years....
Now we reap the benefits of our labour: Retired in our mid 50's, healthy and fit, and living with freedom and no schedules like we're kids again. My hats off to my husband for managing our finances so we can play in our retirement. His approach was look after your money, until it can look after you!1 -
I just wrote this on another thread, but I realize one thing that is helpful to my future self on a daily basis is figuring out what I'm eating for dinner before my other meals. That is the biggest challenge for me and if I don't do it, it's frequently a recipe for going off plan.2

I do something similar. I plan my other meals to be as low calorie as possible, so I can eat whatever I like for dinner.2 -
