Bad choices!

Listen, I know fast food is not a good choice to begin with, but I need some help.

The mornings are crazy for me! I was up on and off throughout the night because my 6 month old is sick (one of the things I don't like about being a single mom, no one to share that middle of the night stuff with). This morning I was tired and running late and didn't have time to make a healthy breakfast at home. I made a stop at a fast food place for a breakfast sandwich, and got to work and plugged it in...OH MY GOD, 930 calories worth of breakfast!!!

I absolutely cannot and WILL NOT do that again!

In the off chance (or rather, good chance) that I'm running late for work and choose to stop at a fast food place for breakfast, does anyone have any semi-healthy suggestions? Please! I have been feeling horrible all day for that very bad decision this morning.

Thanks!

I put a box of Fiber One Bars or Slim Fast bars in my desk so that I always have something. I am always running late in the morning.

This with some fruit or yogurt would be quick. Even instant oatmeal is quick in the microwave.

My DH keeps granola bars of some sort in desk at all times. That way he has something to eat when he is running late and he doesn't eat the wrong things. Is there a fridge you can keep food in at work? if so maybe you could keep yogurt or something in it. Put fruit on your desk too, Ornages Apples will last for days.

you should pick up breakfast sandwiches at the store. i know jimmy dean has some awesome tasting ones that are made with turkey sausage and egg white and cheese. not super low in calories but much better than fast food and very tasty.

other things you can grab are a yogurt, oatmeal packet, breakfast bar (make sure its good for you, read the label), apples (give you wake up energy), eggos and put peanut butter on them...

most of this assumes you have at least a microwave at work.

Yeah, I think the safest thing is to have easy stuff ready to go at work or at home so that you can just grab food as you're running out the door. Fruit, granola bars, yogurts, juice boxes....anything that comes in its own package and fits in a purse is a better bet than stopping at a drive-through, which will take just as much time out of your morning and leaves you will less control over what you're going to eat.

grabbing a yogurt cup and a piece of fruit from your fridge takes way less time than going through a drivethru. Never use time as an excuse :flowerforyou:

    Thanks guys!
  • McDonalds fruit and yogurt parfaits are not too bad for you! Or I always get their apple dippers when I take my son there. : )
  • If you have to do fast food for breakfast Dunkin Donuts has an awesome flatbread sandwich. It is made with all egg whites and turkey sausage all under 300 calories. Plus it is really filling and YUMMY

There is a book call Eat this not that. which has a list of what to eat at fast food restaurants.

    McDonald's Egg McMuffin.

My uncle will bet a sausage biscuit from Bojanges and throw away the top half of the biscuit.

I have bookmarked the (printable) nutrition menus for every fast food place in town. Before I leave for lunch I decide where I want to go and then I pull up the nutrition menu and determine what I can eat within my calorie range. You may want to do this. Just review the places you would go for breakfast and make a note (mental or physical) of what you can eat there.

I also keep the 3rd Edition of the Calorie Counter book (by Nawto and Heslin) in my car. That way I can look something up at the drive through. I am also planning to get a copy of the No-Diet Weight Loss Solution Eat This Not That book.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Marisa0918 - There is a Dunkin' Donuts right on my way to work. I'll keep it in mind if I am in this situation again.

In the meantime, I'll make sure to keep some ready-to-go breakfasts in the fridge.

Generally I get up and make a breakfast smoothie and maybe some toast. I'll keep everyone's suggestions in mind (except the oatmeal, I definitely don't like oatmeal!). :)

    Thanks again everyone!

I keep oatmeal and raisins in my desk, and a box of Fiber One Granola bars in the car. If that isn't a choice though...

Try stashing some indiviual servings of Cheerios in sandwich baggies in the car. Easy to munch on while you drive. Plus then you have a snack in the car for the kids too!

    Fast food ideas...
-Fruit and Walnut Salad from McDonalds.
-Apple dippers from McDs (w/o the carmel is even better)
    -Starbucks has oatmeal.
-Plain english muffin with jelly? -- probably available at most places

    Hope that helps!

so you made a bad choice and now can move on.....give yourself a pat on the back for REALIZING this....and what did you learn from it? it will be much better if you can plan a little for mornings in a rush, or really anytime. i drive a school bus and would rather eat my breakfast during my route time...but that is not possible. i usually have something quick and satisfying just before I walk out the door like almonds or walnuts (1/8 cup), clementine, apple with peanut butter, lowfat cheese wedge. just drink more water and get more exercising in today....you will be OK! good luck! :)

I am not sure the cals, but what about like McDonalds, get a fruit parfait? or even fruit.....bring something with you, eat your fruit on the way to work and then put some breakfast bars in your desk....or purse.....

My thoughts, but I am a housewife, so the fridge is in eyeshot for me....

    What did you get?

If I'm running behind, I usually stick to the apple dippers at McDonald's, and throw away or refuse the caramel.

Past that, I'm out of ideas.
