So, thanksgiving.

Not sure how to maneuver thanksgiving dinner. I'm having it with my family, and they're 100% anti-diet and anti-calorie counting. No way to track cals- I don't want to have to fake a stomach ache, but there doesn't seem to be an alternative. Wish me luck!

take a picture of your plate before you eat (if you can...claim its for social media or something) and then later on after dinner, do your best to log what you ate8

I've got no idea what the cal content is for most of what we'll probably end up having, not to mention portion size.0 -
Just serve yourself smaller portions, enjoy it and socialize. There's NO reason anyone should even notice what you do or don't have on your plate. If comments are made, smile, change the subject and enjoy your day.11

You could always just NOT log for one meal and enjoy it. Start all over again Friday morning. One huge meal isn't going to kill ALL your progress. We didn't get fat by eating only one meal... it took MANY!!9

If you want to stick to plan, just make smart choices. Have turkey breast meat, some plain veg, and maybe a little of your favorite starchy side like stuffing or mashed potatoes. Have a taste of the dessert, and don't worry about logging the meal overly much.
It's just one day. If you eat wisely, you won't outdo your weekly deficit.6 -

Estimate how much you take...half a cup of mashed potatoes, or a cup and a half if that's your thing ;-) you're not going to be super accurate because you don't know how much cream or butter went in, but you can make an effort. Take normal amounts of things, not Thanksgiving amounts.1 -

^^this - its an estimation game - i did it yesterday for a thanksgiving pot luck at work...i know my logging wasn't accurate, but it helped me mentally to see the numbers in my log0 -

It's one day...it's friggin' irrelevant to the big picture...just enjoy yourself. I lost the majority of my weight over the fall and early winter of 2012...I enjoyed every bit of Thanksgiving and Christmas...they're irrelevant to the bigger picture.5 -

many of the typical thanksgiving foods (Turkey, Green Bean Casserole etc) are in the database0 -
I guess as best I can but don't worry about it too much. Like the others say, it's just a day, and all things in moderation. I also tend to have a very light breakfast and lunch.0

Do you know what they are called or are they a complete mystery? Log a similar recipe or item from the database. You can get a guess. Unless your family makes really non-standard stuff it is probably in the database.
Take small portions of everything you want. Don't get a second heaping plate. Drink water or low calorie drinks.
Eat a light breakfast or skip breakfast or plan to eat a little lighter the day before or after.
Don't stress about it. One meal will not do any lasting damage.1 -
I've just resigned myself that this will be my one day of not logging. Period. I haven't missed a day since September. I will log my breakfast and lunch and then give it up. I already know that I'm going to have 1 pieces of pie and one serving of cheesecake brownies, mashed potatoes, stuffing, broccoli salad, etc. I am going to eat what I want but just one plate of food and I'm done. It will probably add 1,000 calories to my day, but it's one day.1

Use one plate. The pile of food on it, measured in altitude, can be taken as a guide. If it's one knuckle high, you're good for staying under your calories. If it's 2 knuckles high, you're at maintenance for the day.
Trust me, because I just made that up.19 -
I found a picture on pinterest that shows you portions sizes guesstimates by your hands i'm going to go off that0

I had one of my two feasts already (the other is Saturday) and I simply ate what I pleased, in quantities I pleased. I was so stuffed that supper ended up being an apple lol. I didn't attempt logging of breakfast (eggs and bacon easy enough, salted caramel bread pudding made by someone else not so much lol!) Or the noon meal. I was up 1.2 the next morning and it's gone plus .4lbs as of today. I've set my mind to "as long as I maintain" for this week to 10 days I'm fine. Christmas week will be the same. I refuse to pass on special dishes and meals for the sake of 2lbs. I'm also set for a .5lb/week loss through December. Once January comes, it's back on the grind. Until then, mindful indulgence it is.2

I am taking the it's one day and not logging approach. Going to eat a serving of everything I want to enjoy, and call it a day.1
-
I'm going to have tiny bits of all the things... There is usually so much food that any more than one bite of everything would be too much. The people who do the cooking make enough to feed a football team. Fortunately "dinner" is at 2pm so I'll have time to digest and take a nice long walk after I get home.0
-
one day. one meal. not a big deal.2
-
I already have Thanksgiving dinner pre logged. Is it completely accurate? Nope, I am estimating for one day. Although, I am in maintenance, I did the same thing while losing. We've all heard it before, we didn't gain all our weight in one day. One day wont hurt. For me personally, I have to remind myself, that it's not Thanksgiving week lol, and not an excuse for every day.1
-
Go for a nice long walk or run in the morning and enjoy yourself. More turkey and green beans -- less mashed stuff and casseroles with marshmallows. And save room for s small slice of pie!1
-
Just practice moderation and enjoy the day. Don't stress it to much. I'm probably going to eat about 5 Hawaiian buns and a tiny but of turkey because those buns are my weakness.1
-
Last year I logged my coffee in the morning but that was it. I tried to eat reasonable portions. This year I will probably log but it will be mostly guessing. Just try to put reasonable portions on your plate and not worry about it too much. Odds are you aren't going to eat 3500 calories over maintenance and even if you do that won't undo all of your progress. Unless you have only lost 1 pound so far.2

It's one day.
If you've been consistently moving toward your goals, one day with your family won't crush it.
Enjoy some pie!
Eat all the turkey!2 -
Don't make a big deal about being on a diet so you don't get into an argument about it. Just take moderate portions of the foods that you most want to enjoy, skip the ones you really don't care about, and stop eating before you feel stuffed.4

Awesome, and extra credit for rhyming.2 -
Getting a little annoyed with these posts. Your a grown adult if you cant handle yourself with the excuse of "holidays" then don't....nothing ayone here can say is gonna make a dfference youve already clearly decided to binge to the point its an issue to not count calories and want us to tell you its okay...
Again, grown *kitten* adult. Do whatever you wanna do. Basic common sense you already know everything thats gona be said here XD You just wanted the "its the holidays, Go ahead and binge!" posts lol0 -
Why don't you just eat turkey breast, green beans, salad, and a plain potato or piece of bread. You don't have to eat the pies, stuffing, fatty salads and all the crap.0

The foods your family are serving can't be all that exotic. Can you guesstimate? Say, look up homemade stuffing and choose the highest count or at least one on the higher end. If something specific is added, guesstimate that - enter green beans as near as you can figure the amount you take, add a tablespoon of butter if they're dripping in it, add a slice and a half of bacon if there are a lot of bacon crumbles in your beans, etc. You can wind up way off this way, sure, but perhaps not as much as if you just don't count and figure "I can't have eaten THAT much." You know?
Just do your best and...it is after all only one day.0
