Is one bad snack a day okay?

I eat healthy 95% of the day but sometimes I like to have a little treat :) my treat is usually all natural chocolate icecream (contains only milk, cream, sugar, and cocoa.)But I hear that it's the little things that add up to weight gain, like a handful of chips every day. Is this true? Isn't it okay to have a little treat every day? Or will this ruin my weight loss? :/

as long as you allow some room in your daily calorie budget for your bad snack it won't do too much damage :)

I have a snack every day (usually a Reece's cup). I just budget the calories accordingly. Enjoy yourself!

Depends on if it's putting you over on calories or not. If you're still under your calorie goal for the day *I* don't see a problem with it. I'm the kind of person that doesn't believe in a treat every day or it's not a treat. I'm more likely to treat myself something like you do once a week or so.

I agree. If you aren't worried about sugar and have room under your calorie cap then go for it. Sometimes this can help us stay on track by not feeling so deprived of the things we love. At some point though don't be surprised if you actually start reaching for fruit or nuts instead.

I also have a treat everyday - I look at it this way. I am losing weight, I am toning up, I look better than I have in a long time...so I can justify it. I am not going to cut out eating everything that I enjoy. :)

Nothing wrong with treating yourself, especially you are 95% good :-) Just leave room for it if you are on a restricted diet (watching calories) to lose weight.

I usually have about 100 calories a day of candy/candy-like snacks. I just make sure that it doesn't put me over. In my case, if i don't have the candy, i will make it a certain amount of time, and then freak out and eat a years worth of candy in one sitting. If you can just have one bad snack, i think your fine. Weight gain comes from lots and lots of bad decisions adding up.

Yes! Your goal should be to improve your diet - not to be prefect all the time. I allow myself a 100 calorie snack pack at the end of the day ...... provided I have calories left over.

Guess it depends on what 'bad' means. I eat between 1/4 and a full Hershey bar pretty much every day of my life and have for the last year. The weight still comes off and my chocolate monster is quelled.

Moderation is the key. Allow yourself your goodie-a-day, most women feel the need to have something sweet or chocolate every day. As long as you are within your calories, I see nothing wrong with it! Enjoy!

Ofcourse that's ok. That'll keep you on track aswell, because you won't feel so deprived.

It's what I've been doing for the last 4 and half months and it seems to be working, soooooooo :)

I would say a bad choice once daily is a bad choice--I'd try to limit the "bad" snacks to less than daily.

If one bad snack was detrimental to weight loss, I would have stopped losing weight a long time ago. I have snacks here and there, and indulge, but I make sure that I stay active with my running and everything else, and it hasn't made a difference in losing whatsoever. If anything, it's kept me sane, because I don't feel like I'm depriving myself constantly of things I love.

Besides, there's a difference in a handful of chips, and the entire bag. A handful of chips is not going to magically go straight to your butt and make you gain ten pounds, even if you have a handful every day. If you're sensible with everything else, I'm sure you're totally fine.

The goal isn't to give up everything you used to eat, it's to make better choices and control what you were eating before. If eating TONS of candy made you fat, quit eating TONS of candy. A small treat isn't going to ruin everything you've done. 2500 calories of 'small treats' in one sitting will.

Instead of thinking about what we can get away with we should approach our daily diet as fuel for our body and what our bodies need to function at maximal health. I have learned to eat on purpose and to eat in order to live rather than living to eat. Certainly having a treat from time to time is fine but you we all want to grow to a point of maturity where we enjoy what fuels our body to the optimum.

in my opinion, you need to give into the cravings every once in a while otherwise you can cave and end up eating a whole bunch of youre treat. I like the snack sizes of candy bars to keep portions reasonable. Weight loss is about a life style change and cutting out foods that you enjoy will make not make this journey much fun.

Well it is for me...reason being if I don't add some bad in I will feel like I'm on a diet and not a lifestyle change...because in "my" real world bad snacks (candy, wine etc) will ALWAYS be a part of my lifestyle...you know what I mean, but I count them ALL and sometimes pay the price..either by working out harder or a not so good weigh-in week...but hey that's my "true lifestyle"

    :drinker:  :embarassed:
