I have just started watching my calorie intake. Let me go back and give some back ground first. I am 5 ft 7 in I started working out at curves in October of 2007. I didnt change anything just working out 3 days a week. Every month I lost a few inches and a few pounds, I started out at 359 pounds and when I went last month to get my weight and measurements I was down a few more inches and my weight is down to 352 pounds. Over this past weekend I really had a reality check with my weight. I want to get it down but I knew I had to change a few things. I stopped drinking soda and I put myself on a 1700 calorie intake. On Sunday it was really hard to do that because my husband and the kids were home and I was still hungry. Well Monday comes and it was a little easier and Tuesday through today has been wonderful I am not even coming close to the 1700. I try to eat but I cannot force myself or I will get sick, that's not good either. I am a stay at home Mom with my youngest about to go to school in August. So I know it will be alot better or easier when she 's gone. My thing is when I am home alone I find myself not hungry and not eating. I want to be healthy, but I dont want to get sick either. My question is this how long should I stay with the 1700 calories and exercise before I change it? I was thinking at least a month to see how well I did or didn't do. I know with my weight that it may take more to keep me going but I am not tired or anything else. Is there a certain set guide line that one must go by?

If you go to your profile you can put in your current weight and how much you want to weigh and it will tell you how many calories a day you should be eating in order to lose the weight. Check it out. And WELCOME ABOARD!!!

  • Thanks I will have to go and look at it again!:flowerforyou:
  • After you look at it and get all of that figured out you might want to try what I used to do. I put myself on an eating schedule, eating something small(even if I wasn't really hungry) every three hours, that way I never got really hungry and over did it. Another thing that helped me was to put post it's in places where I could see them that said things like eat a banana. Good luck and Welcome, you'll love all the support you get here!! Here's to making healthy changes:drinker:

I have to have a schedule also or I'd skip a lot of meals. I still skip some, but, hey, this is a learning curve. I do 99% of my cooking from scratch so I keep a few "packaged" items around that I can grab for snacks if I ned to: yogurt, fruit, special K bliss bars, etc..

Definitely put yourself on a schedule.

Once you establish your calorie needs, divide that by 6, and schedule yourself six small meals. Mine are usually between 200-250 calories - and I decide ahead of time what I will have, and enter it in the food diary - I really need to SEE it to stay on track.

Have lean protein close in time to your workout- especially within 45 minutes after your workout.

Keeping your metabolism always moving (digesting) is what you are shooting for. And eating every 2-3 hours keeps your blood sugar more stable, so you won't binge.

I'll stop lecturing now! Good luck with your weight loss.....you can do it!
