Nightmare - Taking Blog Down

So, something totally hellish happened to me today. I was at work, in a good mood and going about my daily work. All of a sudden, my boss approached me and asked me to come into her office. She said that she had read my blog on the weekend (no idea how she got access to it, as I told NO ONE at work about it), and feared that I was SUICIDAL!!! What the hell.

So she told me that she had approached her boss, the president of the company and told him all about it. for heaven’s sake. So she sat me down and told me that she noticed I was *****y and withdrawn, and she fears for my life. Then she handed me a stack of pamphlets about suicide, overcoming addiction, counselling services etc.

I started bawling and told her I am not suicidal, but I was scared that I’d throw my whole PLAN away, not my life you fricken moron. I told her that was fine and appreciated her concern.

So I ran into her boss and he keeps smiling at me ear to ear with this weird look on his face. Uggggggggg. So I’ve had this great relationship with him for 2 years, and now he thinks I’m some depressed, suicidal weirdo.

So, in short, I’m taking my blog down (what a waste of money) because I don’t want people to get the wrong idea, and I don’t want people at work to have access to it.

I will keep you all up to date on my progress.

  • Wow, that's really too bad!!! What is it any of her business to read your blog in the first place????

I can't believe that... What an invasion of personal space. It actually makes ME angry!

Ugh, I don't even know what to say, I can only imagine what you must feel like at work now with those two.

Just try to keep focused and keep us all updated for sure! I've been reading your posts for a while now and I really like them, I just don't comment much.

And congrats on the 12 lbs!!!!!!!! That's a huge accomplishment in itself! :drinker:

WOW!!!!....SOOOO SORRY :flowerforyou: What a disaster!!:noway: i can't beleive she did that!.....good idea taking it down if people who have no business in your personal life suddenlly thinks it's ok to stick there nose in it.

if u have had a good relationship with her boss maybe you should pull himn aside and let him know she misunderstood the purpose of those statement....that she shouldn't have had her nose in anyways!!!!

Sorry to hear about the uncomfortable situation. To her defense, she was only trying to be nice. Imagine the agony she'd be faced with if something did happen to you and she didn't try to help... I know it must be awkward for you.

Why not use MFP's blog function - it's free! Also, there are many free blog websites like www.livejournal.com or www.blogger.com.

Journalling seems to really help you. I don't think you should give it up so easily. Just remember - without password-protection or "friends-only" settings, anything you post online is up for anyone's eyes.

I just thought of this - if you're working on your blog at work, your boss probably has access to the history of your work computer. If that's the case, not only would she have access to what you're writing on your blog, but also to what you post here...

I just wanted to tell you that I read your blog after seeing a post that you included the info for it in. I stalked just about the entire thing. Not once did anything I read make me think that you may be suicidal (I read it earlier, before reading this post). I found it interesting and enjoyed reading it. While I empathise with your feelings, nothing that you wrote made me concerned for your safety. I find it ridiculous that someone would take that away from your writing. I appreciate your ability to share such personal struggles with others, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to open up in that way. It is great that your supervisor cares about you and would go to the trouble of confronting you about this subject, that couldn't have been easy for her. I hope that things blow over. But seriously, NOTHING I read in your blog led to to think that you were thinking about hurting yourself.

just a question, I have never blogged and know absolutely nothing about them, but doesn't a person who blogs expect people to read them? I always thought that was the reason for posting a blog?

btw your supervisor sounds like a nut all on her own. Maybe if she knew anything about you at all instead of thinking she knows better than you, she wouldn't jump to conclusions and overreact to something she obviously knows nothing about. If you had been suicidal, her approach to your problem would probably have driven you over the edge, people like that aren't worth worrying about. Be glad you are who you are and not like her

    I have to agree. :ohwell:

No fault to you, OP, at all...It stinks that maybe someone you know read it.

But it's not really your boss's fault either for reading it and I definitely wouldn't consider it an "invasion of privacy" as another poster wrote.

Lindsay, I agree with tlitzner. As a reader of your blog I've never read anything that would make me think you were suicidal. But sometimes us humans are weird and come to our own conclusions. At least she is concerned for your well being. But I do hope she understands now that you are ok.

I hope that you can either blog on here or find another way to keep getting your feelings out. I'm a journaler and there have been alot of times I just feel better when I write stuff out. Even if the situation doesn't change. Writing still helps me.

I hope your day gets better! Keep up the good work on eating and following your plan.

Can't go wrong with a good old fashioned bedside journal. If they want to read that, they have to break in :)

You can create a private blog very easily. I have a password protected blog on Wordpress that I only give family and close friends access too. If blogging helps you, then that could be an option as you can give people you want to read it access. This way your boss could NEVER read what you are writing without you giving her the password.

I am sorry that your boss took your blogging as a call for help to the highest degree. In all fairness, if your boss has noticed a change in your performance and your attitude, she may feel as though she needs to be pro-active, as another poster mentioned, if something were to happen and she did nothing after knowing...well you get the point, in addition, your boss may not operate to the level emotionally that you do, some of our greatest artists were called insane (yes and its true some really were), but the point is that some people think with a different part of their brain, she may not have the capacity to understand and comprehend your outward blogging, she could see you crying for help instead of seeing you writing for therapy.......do your best to perform your job to the best of your ability and try and keep your personal life away from work (i.e talking to people on the job about anything personal).....and maybe address the situation with her boss, not as an attack but to explain your side of things, that you appreciate the concern, but that you do have your own issues and that you choose blogging as a sort of therepy and in no way a suicide letter. Be sure to stand in control of this conversation, boss types often will talk over you before you get a chance to explain. When you walk in there it will be person to person not boss to employee as this is a PERSONAL conversation.......

Hang in there baby, and keep writing.................
