Welcome to the 2017 Adopt-a-Noob Discussion!
This thread is dedicated to those MFP members that would like to volunteer their time to mentor or adopt a new comer to MFP; with the high volume that occurs in the beginning of the year, this will be an easy way for new members to view profiles of members to friend and lean on for advice, guidance or direction.
For those who participated in the Adopt-a-Noob discussion the last two years - giant thanks for your willingness to give back and support others on their path. If you have recently posted in the original discussion, or volunteered last year and have bandwidth again, please be sure to re-post here.

We will maintain a list of forum members (in this post) of all the members that would like to become a mentor or volunteer their time. We suggest that you post some background (essentially a short profile) on yourself to give the new members some prior knowledge. If at any time, you want to revise your post, please send an update to @Alex, @Nova or @Betty, and we will alter your original post as soon as we are able.
Also, if you see new members posting in this topic, please feel free to reach out to them. In fact its encouraged, we all know lots of noobs are going to post in this discussion thinking that is how they get a mentor. We will encourage them to reach out to you, but let's help everyone out and have the folks volunteering to adopt a noob reach out to posters as well.

Oh, I'd love to be a mentor! Here's my profile:
I'm a 23 year old - 5', 118 lb. (bulk) lifting lover! I started off thinking the key to fitness was being a cardio bunny and eating as minimally as possible, until I hit 95 lbs. and still was not at my "ideal" body. Did my research, started eating more protein, lifting heavy and now a year-and-a-half later, here I am. I have achieved success through nutrition education, a little assistance from a trainer (and my orthopedic doc, thanks to foot problems) and my own curated lift program. I have an extremely busy schedule with a 3-hour commute, 9-hour work day and doing homeowner/girlfriend errands, but I always make time for fitness and health. I'm a proud fur mama to the funniest duo, Ote (4 lb. Chihuahua) and Dutch (145 lb. - still growing - Bullmastiff). All my lifts are powered by Starbuck's!99 -
I'm 'new' on here again. I haven't been on MFP in a few years, and have missed the accountability and fun! If any of you fun, flirty, fitness lovers want to join me, please do! I've lost all my former friends on here (except the awesome few that I've been able to stay in touch with!) Best of luck on your fitness journey!

I'm happy to adopt a noob.
Just one.
I don't have a ton of time so, be aware that there won't be a long - constant stream of messages but the ones I do send will be as helpful as I'm able to make them!
You're going to need to be self motivated, able to listen and willing to take on advice and make subtle changes to reach your goal - to push passed barriers and be the best YOU possible.
A little about me :
I'm Adam, I'm 27 and I'm an athlete based personal Trainer - I don't do the average gym training with my clients. I've trained people to get into the armed forces, trained people to enter serious competitions and I thrive from pushing my clients as far as I can and helping them reach their potential.
As a mentor I have a lot of knowledge to draw on to help push the right person forward.
What I'm looking for in a 'noob' :
Somebody absolutely dedicated, I want to be here to offer advice and guidance as you reach towards your goals and ultimately I want somebody that WANTS to succeed.
Turn to me if you're ready to take that next step and you want somebody to lean on for advice that will gladly put the time into explaining some of the advanced things to you.
If you're ready - I am!
Please be aware that due to the fact I'm only looking to take on - one noob, I will be waiting to see who best matches who I think would most benefit from having me as a mentor.
Additional points to consider:
I'm from the UK (time zones, etc)
I'm a fan of cardio, both HIIT and steady state - a huge believer in incorporating them into a week alongside strength training.
And to everybody else on here and those starting out in 2017 - I wish everybody the VERY best!

I'd like to mentor. I've been here since last May, have lost 30lbs so far but I've changed my lifestyle for good & experimented with what can be sustainable. I'm a bit OCD so i stick to what I've adopted. Background: I'm 62, in fairly good health. I lost my job (along with 75 others)& decided to retire. I volunteer at a no kill animal rescue which keeps me busy. I go to the gym & my hubbys lost about 55lbs & has kept it off for months. We both changed our eating patterns

This is cool.
I'll gladly mentor a few people. My details are listed below, I wont say no to anyone but read my info below to see if there is anything I can offer you.
I am 49 yrs old, just celebrated my 25th anniversary yesterday!
-I lost 50 lbs 3 years ago, and have been maintaining since. Mostly got my eating under control as I have always been pretty active and played many sports, lifted weights for most of my adult life.
- I lift weights about 3 times a week, presently following stronglifts 5x5.
- I don't eat clean, but I do count calories.
- cardio is a real dogs breakfast for me, everything from long walks, jogging, elliptical to long periods of nothing. Our weather can be brutal and I take breaks from time to time.

This is so intimidating...I'm 41, almost 42...I don't have much weight to lose, lose but I'd like to be fit and healthier across the board. I can be very focused and would like to make somebody proud!! Adopt/message me!9

I'm a 55 yo married NOOB. Started using MFP to assist with adopting a Mediterranean diet (trying out MIND diet also) for wife and I. I've got a lot of weight to lose and need to be in shape to care for her as shes been diagnosis with degenerative brain disease. Lost 19 pounds in six weeks so far with portion control, eating whole foods and reducing alcohol and 20 to 30 minutes cardio activity a day (I need to work on endurance). Not easy starting right through holidays but have incorporated intermittent fasting which seems to help with those days we go overboard.

I'm willing to help mentor again this year.
Some stats first:

Right now (December 30, 2016): 109
Like some of you, I started "dieting" a bunch of times but it never stuck. It came to a point to buy an entire new wardrobe or get serious. Haven't looked back.
I lost 28 pounds between March and late September 2015 on a 1200 calorie diet. This is a contentious issue around here, but as I am small and mostly sedentary, it worked for me. Maintenance is 1420 for me, and I eat about half of my exercise calories back. No particular plan for me, but lots of lean protein and veggies along with regular, reasonable indulgences.
I began with a Couch to 5K program (C25K) to help speed up the weight loss in the beginning. Did it for a month and got to the 5K, then got bored.
Since then, I've been doing body weight strength training five times a week. No gym, no dues, nothing to buy, AND NO EXCUSES. Fantastic for me. I like You Are Your Own Gym (YAYOG) because the trainer is low-key but challenging. It's not Insanity or any of that, but having stuck with it for almost 2 years, I'm in the best shape of my life. Since I have put on muscle, my goal weight went up by a few pounds, but I still have the same waist measurement (23.5" down from 29"). Ultimately, I believe exercise is important for any fitness program but you should find what works best for you.

The two things I ask of anyone is consistency and not to excessively whiny. It sounds a bit harsh, but what I mean is that I need you to realize that there might be a day, three, or a week where everything seems to go wrong. It happens to all of us, but if you post messages every other day of how you'll never be able to do this and you're a failure, such an attitude is self-actualizing. Show up and try to be positive even about your shortcomings, and I'll be there for you!

Hello I am happy offer to act as mentor for someone new to MFP that wants to change their life.
Today I celebrated my 1227th day of logging into MFP and I have managed to achieve and change a lot in those days. The first year was weight loss and learning about fitness and stuff through the forums and personal newsfeeds discussions. The rest of the days are just about maintenance (but still trying to improve all the time).
A little about me. In my 40's and in Australia. I like weightlifting and aerial arts. I know a fair amount about fitness and nutrition but I am not an obsessive food logger and can't offer special love in that area (ie commenting on your food diary - I don't care what you ate today). Plus I can offer the occasional entertaining story to pop on your newfeed.
Consider the time zone if you want to be mentored, as Australia is usually awake when America is asleep and vice versa, so that can make it tricky if you want to converse.3 -

I'd like to be adopted. I'm 20 yo, 153cm "tall" and I have pcos, I've been using this site for a bit to count calories. I've gone from around 154 to 125 pounds and I've been stack to that weight for around a month and struggling to get lower. For exercise I do yoga in my apartment but I want to start going to the gym after my mid terms, I want to become very active and build the best version of my body. I've managed to learn how to control myself eating and to prefer good foods over bad ones, but I also allow myself treats on holidays etc. I hope to be mentored by a person that can show me the way into a healthier more active lifestyle.
Goals:
Lose the last pounds, GW around 110-115
Build muscle and learn what to do at the gym, I have no idea
Manage to get my maintenance calories a bit higher, I think I've screwed up my metabolism a bit by eating 1200 for a long time, now I'm trying to higher my intake slowly, I also sometimes do a "eat more one day and fast the next one" because reddit :P
I'm from Greece, so the timezones might be a bit tricky, I'm still open for a mentor from any country though if you don't mind the time difference!0 -
I'd be glad to mentor someone.
I went from 285 to 190, the bulk of it, 65lbs, I lost in 7 months. For weight loss you have to eat well and then lifting / cardio supplements that.
I'm a strong endorser though of lifting while also adjusting your diet. Lifting gives you many benefits, it increases your confidence, makes you physically stronger, enhances your athletic ability and ensures you don't look 'skinny fat'.
I just wouldn't want to mentor someone that thinks going to the gym 3x a week is enough. I can't get behind that. I have a busy career, dog, i'm a home owner, i have a gf, i'm usually in a few rec sports (volleyball and flag football) and i still lift 7x a week.11 -

I'm happy to be a mentor to 1 person.
I'm Ruth, 47, 5 ft 2 1/4", average weight 128lbs, from Northern Ireland. Married 28 yrs, have 2 adult sons, work full time in accounts.
I've been on MFP since May 2012, my goal was to lose 20 lbs which I did, went on to lose a few more and been in maintenance since Dec 13
I'm active in general, work out week days a combination of running/walking and lifting. A sedentary day for me is 10k steps.
Imo I'm in the best shape ever and feel I can offer sound advice to newbies
But... none of this half starving oneself nonsense! I'm small and lost weight consistently eating 1600-1800 calories. I firmly believe that we have to make small changes which become lasting habits to keep the weight off for good. Eating too little makes us feel deprived which eventually leads to just giving up (As I found after years of yoyo dieting).
If anyone is interested send me a PM with an FR.
I don't log my meals any more and don't post to my news feed either any more but I'm happy to support someone and will happily comment and share pointers/tips.
I eat ALL foods but practice moderation.

I just found this app a few days ago but I love it so much I already signed up for the premium membership.
Here's a bit about me.
29 year old female.
210lbs....5' 7"
Goal to lose 60 lbs or more before June.
I ran cross country in high school, and I enjoyed running then. Still do, but it's a lot harder now.
I should also state that I have hypothyroidism which does make it harder to lose, but I'm willing to work my *kitten* off. Just kind of need a cheerleader or something.

I would love to adopt someone this Year! About me: My basic philosophy about weight loss is that people make it seem way to complicated. It isn't, but not being complicated doesn't mean that it's easy. The simple part is the formula. Calories in/calories out. The hard stuff comes from the consistency required and the patience needed to see yourself through to the next goal, and then the next. I am willing to answer one million questions and cheer you on, but I can not hold you accountable. You have to hold yourself accountable. It's your body, your life, your decision. I'm a 38 year old hard working mom and wife. I'm usually up by 5 and work 10+ hour days on the regular. If I'm out here hustling, making it work then you're going to have a pretty convincing sob story to convince me you can't do it too. But you already know that you can...that's why you're here. I'd like to help anyone and be a mentor. Been a mentor to business people for years so have an appreciation of how to be supportive & a couple of years ago wrote a book on why diets fail for 80% of people . Have done the journey myself with 15kg loss, & then 8 back but now on mfp again.

I would love to mentor if someone needs help and motivation.
I've been involved as a wellness coach in helping several people (in real life) lose weight. I'm not a nutritionist, but I should be able to help understand the basics and answer simpler questions with references (frequently WebMD). I'm positive, supportive, and enjoy helping other reach their goals.
I've been on MFP for a couple of years (at least), and I've seen a lot of people come and go. Some reach their goals and some do not. I would love to help people reach their goals, lose weight, and become more healthy.
Just over 77% of Americans are overweight, obese, or extremely obese (source: https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/health-statistics/Pages/overweight-obesity-statistics.aspx ). Give the severe health consequences of this, we all need to do our part in changing this.

I would be able to be a mentor to someone who needs a hand with there weight lose journey. I am 35 and from the UK. I enjoy sports amongst other things. Also I am a qualified nutritionalist and on a personal level have lost 7 stone over the course of the last 3 years by just eating the right things and regular exercise12
