No they don't aid weight loss. Burning more calories than eating does and only that.

If you eat 1100 calories a day and drink 10 cups of coffee or green tea you will lose exactly the same weight as when you eat 1100 calories a day and don't drink any coffee or green tea.

    Enter your details into MFP.
Select "sedentary" as your activity level.
Select that you want to lose 1 lb/week.
How many calories does MFP give you?

    Eat those calories.

If you exercise, log it realistically. Choose a "light" or "low" option.
Unless you're doing a whole lot of exercise, eat half your exercise calories back.

    Stick with it.

Meaning if you burn 2000 calories in a day you need to eat less than that.

To elaborate, "burn" includes all of your body functions, not just exercise.

Read the sticky threads pinned to the top of the various forums. There's loads of good information there.

The best aid to weight loss I found was maintaining a good attitude to it. Setting goals which are attainable using mfp's setting as mentioned is very helpful. Depending on how much you have to loose, setting to a 2 lb a week loss is not helpful, only people with over 50 lb to loose can start at this level because as you come closer to the weight you wish to be, loosing becomes slower. Being too strict set you up for a fall.

Avoiding heavily processed foods protects you from all the unnecessary added sugar which tends to be used in these foods to compensate for the lower fat component. Reading labels is essential so you know what they contain because they can be liberally laced with preservatives which many have difficulty with.

Science is indicating fat is not the demon it was held out to be. The body uses fat to make hormones and things like essential faty acids, so we need good quality fats.

No, it doesn't, at least not to any degree that will make a difference. And authoritynutrition is a junk site.

Source credibility is important. When looking for information always look at peer reviewed scientific research. Even if a doctor is quoted that is still not evidence.
