Loose Skin

I am in the process of losing weight. My main fear is all the loose skin that comes with this.

Anyone that has lost 50+lbs have any tips for keeping the loose skin at bay?

Thank you!

I've lost 30 so far with another 15-20 to go, and I've lost pretty slowly as well as incorporated yoga, Pilates and traditional strength training to tone as I lose and am hoping not to deal with loose skin when I'm at my goal weight!

Good luck and I'm interested to hear what others have to say too as I'm not quite there yet!

Honestly, you can't really do anything because its more dependent on genetics than anything. Losing slowly is said to help. Some people will tell you that lifting helps "fill it out", but not really. You're not gonna gain much muscle while eating at a deficit and 1 lb of muscle takes up LESS room than 1 lb of fat.

Hopefully the possibility of loose skin won't stop you from losing, so my suggestion is don't stress about it. Focus on losing weight, you'll be so glad you did. I lost 148 lbs and people don't comment on a little loose skin, they comment on how strong and healthy I look. It continues to tighten over time after you reach goal. There are a million threads on here about loose skin, so you could search for old threads to see past discussions.

Just like the above poster, there's little you can do. Age, genetics, amount of weight lost, etc all factors in.

I used to let excess skin be a "reason" to give up. For example "why bother losing weight if I'm going to look bad thin too". It really used to be a mental block for me.

I've come to accept I may need/want a body lift once I've completed my loss journey. When I start getting discouraged, I look up plastic surgeons and look at before/after. There's a year weight after hitting goal before you can get the lift. That gives me enough time to start saving. :)
