What is the ideal activity level setting for losing the most weight? I'm a pretty active person but the calorie budget shown on MFP for "Very Active" seems a little too high for me..

There is no ideal activity setting for losing the most weight. You'll lose weight as you're body wants to lose weight. As long as you log food, eat healthy and exercise, you'll be just fine. Besides, the slower you lose the weight the easier it will be to keep off in the long.
You can try very active and see how you do and then if you need to adjust it, you can. I started out as sedentary but recently bumped up to lightly active, and thats the perfect amount of calories for me.0 -
To be honest, your best bet is to set the activity level to "Sedentary" to be safe.
A lot of people overestimate their activity levels, because it's a lifestyle that they're used to, and besides: If the MFP calc assumes you're sedentary, there's little chance you'll underestimate calorie intake.0
