I've been seeing Savory Oat recipes on Pinterest and I've decided to give them a try. I bought myself some steel-cut oatmeal to start with.

What add-ins do you like in your savory oats? I'm looking for some ideas.

My favorite is a few slices of 2% american cheese melted into your cooked oats and mixed in with salt and pepper to your taste. Simply, low calorie, and savory.

The spicy one with cilantro & ginger looks interesting.......

    Bacon, fried egg & cheddar?

Similar but not exactly the same, I've been into grits lately for breakfast. I top with a couple egg whites and a couple pieces of diced turkey bacon. I'm sure you could do the same with overnight oats

Topped with poached or fried egg.
Stir in grated parmesan (like risotto).
    Stir in (toasted) nuts.
Combine with lentils or other favorite legume.
Top with broccoli and cheese sauce.
Basically, anything you would add to rice (think pilaf or risotto), other grains, potatoes, or pasta, you can add to cooked oats.

I like to stir in a little soy sauce, then top with stir-fried mushrooms (stir-fried in more soy sauce) and a poached or fried egg. :)

I went through a big savoury oats phase. A couple I enjoyed were.

    Chicken stock, tarragon and mushroom

Goats cheese, honey, poached egg and roast pumpkin

    Bacon, maple and cream cheese

Soy sauce, spring onion and leftover pork mince

Parmesan, mushroom, leek and semi sundried tomato

Soy and fish sauce, heavy chilli, fried egg and mushroom stock.

On Sunday I made steel cut oats topped with sautéed spinach, grated parm and a poached egg. It was delicious.

I've been sick for the last couple of days, but I made myself some oats on Saturday. I added in some shredded cheddar cheese, bacon crumbles, and sour cream. It tasted good, but wasn't necessarily as healthy as I'd like it to be.
