I am a mom of two who just lost her dad. I am sad beyond words and find that I am eating my sadness away. I want to be a healthy happy mom l, but when I can't even look at myself how can I be a good role model to my two young kids. I need to lose weight badly.

Sorry about your dad. Maybe before you have a weight loss goal you should have a goal of feeling better about taking care of yourself. Massage, a walk with a good friend can help. Concentrate on eating nourishing food.

You have taken the first hardest step. You know you turn to food for comfort most of us on here do. You need to break that cycle. I read the best thing that clears the mind and gets you thinking straight is a small walk. And it works for me.

Thanks. It's going to be a very rare warm day today so I am going to do that. A nice walk

It's 6 years ago today that I lost my mother after a long illness. We were very, very close and I feel that loss still daily. For about a year after she passed, I put on weight. I just didn't care. I hurt. Not sure exactly what it was, but there was a moment that I realized she wouldn't want me to be this way. Unhealthy and miserable. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss and I completely understand where you are. I agree with the others that you need to find the mental and emotional well-being first. Putting your post out here is a good first step to making a change. You'll find support here. It might be a while until your hurt starts to dull, but you can slowly start taking the steps you need to for you and for your kids. Everyone grieves in their own way. No one can tell you how to do it. Each day is new and different. Do something a little better tomorrow than you did today. Then repeat that. Slowly, you will get there. But the point is you WILL get there. Wish you the very best.

It sure is. It still is for me today. Some days are better than others, but don't ever apologize or feel bad for what you need to do. It will get easier though. Just hang in there. You can totally do this.

I know this one, eat cuz I feel bad and feel bad cuz I eat. You need support. I lost my dad when I was a kid and I didn't stop eating it until I was 32. I feel you. We need to be healthy so our kids don't have to feel this any time soon. Add me if you want. Friends help.
