All my friends have been telling me the higher the protein the better and to not cut calorie intake, what they are saying makes some sense however I feel I need more portion control - is this unhealthy or should I be focusing more on calorie intake??

You can eat as much protein as you want, but if you're not in a calorie deficit, you're not going to lose weight.
Protein is great to help maintain your muscle mass and for a lot of people it means a high satiety, meaning you might conceivably eat less, meaning you'll find yourself in a calorie deficit.
Calories for weightloss
Macros (such as protein) for health and satiety.
Find what works for you in that regards.

You need to eat in a calorie deficit to lose weight, period. however, you should keep protein high and find some form of strength training to maintain muscle mass.
If you continue to eat too many calories over maintenance and eat high protein you will not lose weight.0 -

Yes high protien will help if your having trouble with portion control think of it like this like your stomach is a fuel gauge never let that gaudge get to full keep It at half a tank or a quarter to full you can also use the steak method if you feel like you can eat a steak eat a meal if you feel like you can't eat a snack or drink water sometimes are bodies are just thirsty and we feel that we are hungry0 -

which is 1000% irrelevant if OP is not in a calorie deficit.1 -

I'd be willing to bet that these friends don't monitor Caloric intake. I'd also be willing to bet that that by upping protein, they're simply fuller and thus consume fewer Calories.
This strategy may work, but it's no guarantee.0
