Hey ya'll! I'm on day 3 of my Medifast journey and I was wondering if anyone has tried it before? If so, did you like it? How did you feel? Any comments or suggestions would be helpful!

I did it but all the weight plus some came back when I stopped the diet. I lost a ton in a short time (50 lbs in under 4 months) but it wasn't good for me. I was not healthy following their guidelines of fruits and veggies I shouldn't eat and craved all the off limit foods especially breads.0

I had a friend that used it. She's gained all the weight back plus some. It's an extremely low calorie diet with temporary results.1

I had a friend who did it too. My friend said she enjoyed the food while she did it, and she lost weight, but before long she got tired of it and stopped. Since then she's been gaining the weight back steadily.0 -
I did it in the past (aka about 4 years ago) and lost 25 lbs, but then I gained it all back. I started it again in April this year and I found that it was too restrictive and I had reallyyyy bad cravings. I started MFP in May to track my MF meals and found out that I was eating 1000 cal/day (which is really starving). I know that once you get your body into fat burning (which they say takes 3 days), you wouldn't be as hungry, but I kept failing and kept starting over & over. I just didn't find it sustainable and then being told what to eat and when felt very restrictive to me. I spent a longgg time on the forums here on MFP and became really encouraged by people's success stories who had just decided to count calories and make healthy choices. I learned about IFFYM (if it fits your macros) and I'm practicing that now. I stopped MF in early June and started counting calories (I'm at 1200 a day), not restricting myself (e.g. having ice-cream every night), and eating the foods I love as long as I'm within the calorie limit for the day. I lost 10 lbs already just from doing that, I'm hooked! For me, restricting myself will not result in long term success. 1200 cal is enough to keep me full and I make food choices that will give me satiety (e.g. lean cuts of beef/turkey, vegetables, etc). I'm using my MF meals as snacks between my meals since I still have them and I'm trying to finish my last shipment. However, I no longer consider myself on MF and I'm having better success counting calories on MFP.8

I'm on Take Shape for Life, which uses the Medifast foods. I started on June 13 and it's been going well. I lost over 10lbs in the first week, which I'm sure some will say is "unhealthy" but it works for me. I did my research on this program and it's got clinical studies backing it up and it's Doctor approved. I find the meal replacements tasty and I love that I don't have to think about every meal. I put all my meal planning energy into planning my Lean and Green meal. If you're the type who struggles to meal prep, this plan takes the guesswork out of that, which might help you get more success on your weight loss journey. Now that I'm on week 2, I expect the losses to slow down, but I'm excited to be off to a great start.6

I did it a few years ago.. didn't care for it but my dietician approved it.. only lost 25 lbs in 6 months and gained 45 after I quit following the program. I have had success at eating lower carb/higher protein and cutting out junk food, pop and eating out.2

I'm doing a similar plan. Still 5/1, but it does allow 2 fruits and one starch per day.... I did the fruit for he first few days just to get me thru, but not the starch. I have a terrible problem with low blood sugar! Anyway, I'm about 2 weeks in and I've lost about 8-10 lbs depending on my scale and the time of day. A good friend of mine is doing medifast and has lost like 40 lbs in 3 mos. it's very expensive. My plan is slightly cheaper. I'm hoping to do it for 2-3 mos then transition to a lower carb lifestyle.2

How's your plan going? I know this post is a few weeks old... but I started MF with a Take Shape for Life coach and I love it. I'm coming up on 3 weeks, have minimal cravings and tons of energy. The big thing for me was getting past the cravings, the first few days. I also had to let go of some old beliefs... what helps me is the structure and I have an awesome support system in place, working with my coach. Wishing you the best!0

I was on Medifast years ago, and I loved it. I was losing weight and had so much energy!
The downside is that there's really no wiggle room to eat normal foods when you go out with friends/family. I felt awkward carrying my prepackaged foods with me when I went out with friends, and ultimately failed!
But while I was on plan, I felt great! Super energetic!1 -
I've been on it for almost 11 weeks -- lost 42# but weight loss isn't the #1 reason I went on it. I'm a type II diabetic (ultimately the weight loss will help that), but my sugars, even with almost 200 units of regular insulin (translate about 8 shots a day) and almost 100 units of basil insulin at night, were OUT OF CONTROL and I was gaining weight at incredible speed.
The first week, my doctor took off the regular insulin and within 3 weeks, I was off the basil as well. She monitors my blood sugars daily. For me, Medifast has been a literal lifesaver. The smaller clothes are simply a nice side benefit.

i lost 40 but gained 8 back from our fasting month of ramadan. started eating dessert at night and did not follow program. finally starting again today. goal is to lose 30 by mid december.0

My mom did it and lost 60lbs and is now a health coach for take shape/ medifast. I think it's great for people who need to lose weight for health reasons and then are able to maintain that weight. My mom has done a great job staying her tiny self since stopping the weightloss phase of it years ago. She looks amazing and still incorporates the medifast foods Into her daily diet cause it's what she enjoys. I always thought she was beautiful, but now she's a beautiful tiny momma thanks to the help of takeshape(: She also has arthritis and autoimmune and the weightloss really helped her joints(:2

I'm doing the 5/1 Medifast plan. It definitely works. Unfortunately this is my 3rd time back on it : / I didn't transition off the program properly so I regained. Been back on it since April and have lost about 75 so far. It can be challenging because it is restrictive, but on the other hand I like that the meals are simple and portion controlled.2

I was considering Take Shape for Life just before I started MFP. I feel like if someone can't make food choices themselves and might be very time constrained, it might work well. My ObGyn used it and shed 100lbs in a little more than a year. I was actually planning on failing at MFP and was going to do Medifast as a last-ditch effort before considering weight loss surgery.
The main information I have read is that transitioning to maintenance and off of the prescribed food can be challenging, which makes sense.
MFP helps with that a little better because if you are as overweight as I am, you have 1+ years practicing at food management.0 -

I see a lot of negative MF posts about regain, but I guess I'm here again because of all the times I've lost and regained over the years. I'm planning that Medifast will be different. Hi, @Ciws70, given that you talk about yo-yo dieting (losing/gaining), I have an idea.
Why not set the Medifast plan aside for awhile, set up your weight loss goals at MFP, weigh your solids and measure your liquids, and work really hard to stay in your calorie goals? I guarantee if you eat at a calorie deficit you will lose weight.
I suggest doing this for a month to see if you can do it. I, personally, know you can do it because lots of people and I did it, but this is something you have to find out for yourself.

Thanks for the kind reply SLLRunner. I have been doing just that and was successful; dropped 20 lbs and kept if off so far. But I'm looking for faster losses as I am in the military and we get weighed/measured in about 30 days and I'm not where I need to be. I've been too close too often recently, so just needed to take things up a notch so I don't embarrass myself here. Thanks and have a great day!

I was on MF in 2013, lost 70 pounds in 6 months. I also lost 35 before that just counting calories, for a total of 105 pounds. I've since regained 35 after I went back to my old habits. Any ketotic diet will make you gain a FEW pounds once you reintroduce carbs but more weight gain than that is from running a calorie surplus.
I love MF and just got back on it to lose these 35 and maybe 10 more. Only 3 days in and I already feel better. Good luck Wonder Woman!1 -

I am on nutrisystem. I guess similar to medifast? in that your meals are all planned out and proportioned. I needed that. The meals are mostly good and I am in my 38th day and have lost 16 lbs. I have just started walking around my neighborhood, frankly I couldn't walk around a short block prior to my starting and today I did a l little over 2 miles. I know when I go back to regular food I will have to be very careful . Nutrisystem has coaches and a maintenance program so when the time comes I will look into that. I have another 50 lbs to go.0

Well I just finished day one. I submitted my dairy on MFP and stated it would not show up in my feed because of the calories. Oh well ... I just need to get the weight off.

I've used something entirely similar called Optifast several times and while the results were awesome (25-30KG (i.e 55-66lb lost within 12-14 weeks), it doesn't actually change your psychology towards food nor assist you in finding what you can make long term.
I had varying degrees of success keeping weight off post each period, the very first time I did it, I went from around 130KG to 95KG in the space of 4 months, I'd say I went back to around 105KG within the first 12 months after it, and 120KG within the next 12 months.
I did it again, went from 120KG down to 92KG (which for me, being 6'1 was very lean) and through more exercise, running and such, kept the weight off for a good four to five years although I was often using shakes as meal supplements when I saw the scale go back up. The moment I got injured and could no longer exercise, I rebounded massively and went up to 137KG which is the heaviest I've ever been.

I am just starting back on medifast. It works amazingly, but I've been overindulging lately and it's time to realign. I like to keep lean and grean really simple. I also like to split the l&g so it feels like I get to eat more. I'll have an egg or 1-egg omelet for breakfast, maybe, and then a salad with 3 ounces of chicken for dinner. Taco salad is legal. Another idea is to integrate a medifast meal into dinner - medifast mashed potatoes while the family has the real thing. I like adding some lean, seasoned taco meat to the Ziti Marinara to make it like a bigger spaghetti meal when I make the real thing for my kids. Crab legs are another favorite of mine, and shrimp. It's hard to get enough protein in with those, though, so I usually make that a 1/2 L&G meal. I hope that gives you some ideas. Good luck, please let us know how it goes!!1 -

Hey! Here's a great one!
It's zucchini manicotti
1kg green zucchini sliced long ways
500g fresh ricotta cheese
1 cup baby spinach chopped finely
1 onion grated
Salt and pepper to taste
500g bolognese sauce of choice
Shredded mixed cheese to top it.
Grill zucchini until lightly golden and set aside.
Mix ricotta with spinach and onion and add salt and pepper.
Lay a zucchini out and add a teaspoon of the mixture and then roll. Place in a baking dish. Place them close to each other so they don't open. Once finished top with bolognese sauce and add the shredded cheese.
Bake at 200*C for 30min or until golden
Allow to stand for 15min before serving0 -
Hey Guys I am a returning Medifaster... Lost 60 ... and gained it all back within a year. I did not transition off the packets properly (As I swore I would) a car accident kept me from working out and my body needed real food to heal properly. So I am back. Need to lose the 60 again. Looking for others he really want to dig in - lose the weight and maintain the loss.1

I just started back today. I have made a couple of false starts since I got off after losing 100# in 2012. I also did not transition properly and kicked off my downfall with a cruise.
If you were around the MediFast boards back then, then you know they are nothing like they used to be.0
