Fast food choice/Food on the go?

I just pre-read online. Most places have nutritional information listed.
I go by what I am craving, and what can fit.
Edit: Favie would be like fresh mexican or whole bowls!0 -
Wendy's jr cheeseburger is 280 calories.0
-
It's rare for me to eat fast food, but if I do I generally opt for either a salad from Wendy's or I get a baked potato and a small chili. As burgers go, I'm pretty much a snob and don't really care for fast food burgers...never have.1
-
Dunkin Donut turkey sausage flatbread, or I stop at Starbucks and get one of their sandwiches/boxes there. But most fast food just doesn't fill me up for the calories, so I avoid it.
Honestly though it's happened twice maybe in 3 years that I couldn't wait a couple hours to eat somewhere/something else.0 -
I try to have healthy snacks in the car when I'm on the go, but if I need a quick meal, I like places like Qdoba where it's completely custom. I get a burrito bowl (no tortilla), black beans, lettuce, vegetables, guac, etc. Stuff that keeps me full. (Other fast foods usually don't.)0

I second Wendy's .........some good choices there.1 -
Wendy's grilled chicken burger, throw away the top bun and ask for double lettuce and tomatoes and no condiments/just mustard. It's really good!2
-
Chopped Leaf just opened near my home, they have yummy wraps, soup and salads that you can customize every detail. Also Freshii is a good choice too. Nothing wrong with a well chosen subway sandwich when you are pressed for time, plus they offer chopped salad too0

I generally carry a couple of protein bars and a couple of pieces of fruit with me. Keeps the calories in check without lots of junk.1
-
I also make sure I have a couple of acceptable protein bars and an ounce or two of nuts stashed in my backpack. I switch them out every month if I don't use them. That said, here are my choices for fast food, if I have to:
Chipotle - Barbacoa salad bowl with fajita veggies, mild salsa, and guacamole - about 520 calories according to their website.
McDonalds - the only thing I'll eat there anymore is eggs and sausage for breakfast; two fresh ("round") eggs (160) and two sausage patties (340) - 500 calories. Truthfully, I'm not too crazy about their sausage ingredients, and I have actually not been there in over a month.
There are many, many other options when I'm on the road. Delis always have roast beef or turkey and some kind of salad option, at least in NY. Supermarkets now frequently have a 'prepared food' counter that offers more than the standard cold cuts and potato/macaroni/coleslaw salads. And pretty much any Chinese restaurant will be willing to accommodate reasonable modifications, and you can hardly get a meal faster, even at McDonalds!
(My local go-to place delivers me a very tasty chicken and broccoli with sugar-free garlic sauce on the side. I actually stopped in and introduced myself to the ladies at the front end, and had a good discussion about what actually goes in the dish. Now they know me...)
Another tactic I have developed is to create some 'meals' that I can run in and grab in any supermarket. A pint of berries, a plain yogurt, a protein bar, and a bottle of water will get me to the next real meal.0 -
If I have time to stop, Panera pre-order (phone app is awesome) or Wendy's baked potato and chili. (sometimes just chili if I'm not that hungry, the BP is very filling).
If I really don't have time and have to eat while I drive (don't judge), then I order a burger and not eat the top bun, similar to Allout's suggestion. I will def be hungry later though (whether I ate the top bun or not), so this is just a delay tactic. (maybe ordering a few burgers and throwing away all the buns for a protein bump? Haven't tried this yet)
If you have a Panera nearby and have a minute to run in and grab your app-preorder sandwich, this is usually better for satiety.

Just wanted to add, McDonald's has an ice cream cone that's only 175 calories, and is VERY filling. (well, for me anyway. I find dairy to be the most filling food for me)
That usually gets me through whatever I have to do before I can get to a healthier lunch/dinner.2 -

I work out of two different offices during the week...three days out of the week I'm basically in BFE and Wendy's is basically a "high end" dining experience. If I'm working in the metro I have plenty of options and would rather opt for something like Panera...but it's pretty rare in general for me not to brown bag it...like maybe once every couple of months.0 -

I didn't say I would put this in my daily diet. I don't like fast food but when my daughter calls and says she is in labor I have a 12 hour drive. Hoping to get a healthier idea of what ppl do when they HAVE to go through a drive thru. Glad you are perfect and never have a reason to go.5 -
Chick-fil-A is delicious, but it's a splurge - both calorie and $$
My problem is I can't resist ordering what I like even if my intentions are to be "good"! So I avoid fast food as much as possible.
I'd say subway would be one of your better options.

Oh...he's good people...you just need to figure out some of the many personalities around here and don't get too uptight about things.1 -
i used to be (back in the good ol' days of last week) a big fan of panera. but they updated their calorie count quietly and my 560 calorie sandwich is now 690 and so now i just glare and drive by. i'm not sure if they corrected the calories and i was always eating the 690 or if they changed the recipe.
in a pinch i'll go to subway when i forget my lunch, or just to cvs and grab a pouch of tuna and an easy mac ( #easymacdiet ) and go. mcdonald's breakfast is a hangover's dream for the time i'm eating it, but things go quickly south thereafter.
if you're planning for a road trip, can you maybe pack a cooler bag with snacks and sandwiches that you can grab and put in the car with you?1 -
I used to spend a lot of time out of town doing field work. I started my weight loss while still doing field work and ran into this issue. I always brought snacks, but snacks aren't a meal. I still went to the same fast food places I did before; however, I started changing my orders. Reviewing the calorie content online and having default orders really helps. Here's some of what I did.
1. No matter where you go, ditch the fries. That can cut your meal calories in half. (Or get the children/value size if you really like fries.)
2. Avoid dressings and sauces, especially anything mayonnaise based. (Or get it on the side and put it on yourself.)
3. I can't stomach diet pop. If you can, I'd make that switch. Sometimes I'd get water and sometimes I'd get a child-sized or small coke.
4. Arby's was my default. They have more turkey options than other fast food places. Their website will also let you custom build sandwiches, which is *very* useful.
5. Subway was my second default. Stick to a 6" and don't get the cookies. Which is hard because those cookies are awesome. They have a lot of chip options that are way more reasonable than fries or cookies.

Hey Pam - I usually go with chipotle (I know they had their issues but it seems to be better now!) or something similar like Qdoba or Moes. I typically stick to the carnitas (or similar) because it's usually cooked in better oils and you can customize your meal with whatever fits your macros! Firehouse subs is also really good, especially if you're big on hearty meats. Hope this helps!0

I keep kosher, so my options are a bit limited. Generally, I stick to sushi (I've been trying to get my favorite place to release nutritional info, as they've come up with a few non-standard options, many of which involve tempura bits, deep fried sweet potato, or other ingredients where I'd really feel better knowing the proportions; I'm not THAT put out if there's 1/3 cup of red pepper in a roll I'd guesstimated at 1/4 cup. But 2 tbsp tempura bits vs 4? More of an issue) or pizza. Though I have been known to have a sauted vegetable and hummus wrap on occasion.0

I usually eat 400-500 calorie lunches and 500ish calorie dinners. I've always been able to find something that fits okay.
A regular or junior hamburger and side salad with vinaigrette and unsweetened tea usually fits my normal lunch calories easily. For breakfast on the go I'd probably just pack a piece of fruit or a granola bar.
Look up the nutritional info for places in the area you might go to and find things that will fit.0 -
Harvey's veggie burger no cheese is vegan and sooo good
I get that with either fries or onion rings for about 600 calories0 -
Many supermarkets and Panera have soups and pre-made salads. McDonalds' oatmeal is good, Dunkin Donut's egg white turkey breakfast flatbread, any Dennis/Waffle House/BobEvans/Perkins can make you eggs any way you want to go. Some frozen breakfast entries are not bed, Jimmy Dean's turkey frittata, it takes only a couple of minutes to warm up. Some gas stations have hot breakfast food, Wawa and Speedway0
-
Chick-fil-A has some really good stuff. Their grilled chicken club sandwiches and Superfood sides are some of my favorites!0
