Hey everybody!
I am very new to the exercise community and I am a little nervous so bear with me please. I am in my early 20s and I am trying to tone/ get rid of excess skin around my thighs, abs and arms. I weigh 129lbs and I am 5ft 5.5in. I run every day for 30 mins-45mins on a steep incline, do yoga for 30minutes and have danced independently for about 2 years.

While I am muscular, I wanted some advice on what exercises I can do, with or without weights, to tone those areas and lose some of that thin-layered fatty skin so the muscle I do have shows through and the skin feels tighter. Thanks so much you guys!

Hello :) ! First of all , I am not a personal trainer or anything so I am sorry if I am going to say something which is not quite right.
I do yoga too and use the elliptical for 45 minutes almost everyday. I also want to tone my body but I hate lifting. So for my core , I started doing pilates and it is definetly working ! As for my legs , I use a resistance band and sometimes a pilates ring and I just do a workout I find on youtube using those.
I know that its not as effective as lifting but as I said, I hate lifting.

You're at a good weight for your height so you may want to look into body recomposition to help change the way your body looks. Essentially, you eat at maintenance calories and do a progressive overload resistance training program. It can be bodyweight or using free weights. As long as it gets more difficult as you get stronger.

Bodyweight programs include Convict Conditioning and You Are Your Own Gym. I believe Strong Curves has a bodyweight program as well.

Free weight beginner programs include Stronglifts 5x5, Starting Strength, and Strong Curves.

I'll be the first to say it. You cannot spot reduce or tone a specific area, you can however reduce total body fat to reveal the underlying muscle. Excess skin will reduce in time but to an extent and as long as you don't stretch it out again the mean time by gaining too much weight.

I dont' know what means dance independently. But I know for sure you don't do anything for tonning your own muscles. Running, jogging, yoga, pylates, eleptical only destroy muscles if do them without real muscles work, supporting muscles growth.
I always wonder why people get on the teadmill for reason to firm the body, this is big misconcept. In my gym there are 3 raws of treadmills filled with people who try to loose weight and firm muscles, while the huge area of free weights and machenes stay empty. Watching those people for many years, I didn't see any changes in their physique.
Extra skin on some part of your body lacks of muscles under it to fill the emptiness. Simply use your muscles or they go atrophy. The trigger to muscles growth is resistance exercise. That it is, nothing new...

Pick a progressive full body lifting program and stay in a slight deficit to burn fat...

You CANNOT target losing fat on any area of the body by directly exercising it. If you're trying to lose body fat, first and foremost you need to be in a moderate calorie deficit. If you're not, any and all work you're doing will be in vain. Assess that first.

Why do you hate lifting? Is there some stigma you may have about getting to muscular? Or is it lack of knowledge on what actual exercises to do and how to perform them? If you hate them because it's hard work, I can understand that too.

I guess I find them too hard ! I know that the progress you see with lifting is amazing but I've tried it several times and found it way too hard especially because my legs are so weak and I cant even do a bodyweight squat :(

Surely that's a reason to do it? I highly doubt you can't do a bodyweight squat - your legs carry you around all day, they're probably stronger than you think.

OP - you get "toned" by losing fat, which is achieved through calorie deficit (or perhaps recomp in your case) . I would recommend lifting weights to help retain what muscle you do have.

Well obviously I can but I find it extremely painful and have to stop after I do about 15

So you can do 1 - you can do 15! Perhaps it is a technique issue?

All the more reason to be doing resistance work IMO. How are you going to be able to get up off the ground if you would happen to trip, especially as you get older?

Bingo. 15 is a lot for one set: start out with, say, 5 reps. Even 3 if 5's even too much. Build up slowly from there - add 1-2 reps each time it feels easier.

Yep, sounds like a form or range of motion issue rather than actual strength
