    Sweet potato/black bean chili
-2, 15 oz cans black beans
-2 medium sweet potatoes peeled and cut into small cubes
    -1 medium red onion diced
    - 24oz canned tomato sauce
    - 16 oz water
    - 1/4 c chili powder
    - 1 tbsp cumin
    - 1 tbsp oregano
    - 1 tbsp paprika
    - 1 tbsp salt
    - 1 tbsp black pepper

That can turn out pretty hot, so if u don't like a lot of heat u may want to dial back the spices...

This recipe is from the cookbook LooneySpoons collection. Its wonderful! I believe it makes at least 8 servings, at less than 300 calories each.

With 1/4 cup chili powder, I guess so! LOL

I like to add pumpkin puree to chili...stretches it some and makes it sweet and kinda earthy.

I use ground turkey in mine, as well as a can of beans about a cup of frozen corn for sweetness!

Haha. A 1/4 cup isn't so much (just 4 tbsp). Husband and I like spicy food. I used to use 1/3 cup but had to pull that back some when my toddler started eating the chili. Lol

    93% ground beef
    pinto beans
    black beans
    kidney beans
    onion
    red chili powder
    cumin
    tomato puree
    water
    S&P

Frankly, I can't really think of a way to make a traditional chili be particularly unhealthy...I've always thought of it as a healthy meal.

    20oz ground turkey
1 15 oz can black beans
    1/2 red pepper
    1/2 green pepper
    1/2 white onion
    3 Tbsp Garlic
    3 Tbsp chili powder
    1 Tbsp ground cumin
    1 tsp ground cayenne pepper
    1/2 Tbsp crushed red pepper
    1/2 cup BBQ sauce
    1 12 oz Beer
    1 15 oz. Can tomatoes
    1 10 oz can tomatoes w/green chiles
1 4oz small can green chiles
    1 8oz can tomato sauce
1 6 oz can tomato paste
Brown the ground turkey in a big pot, then add everything, making sure the beer is last. Add the beer to your desired consistency, drink the rest. This will make 8 reasonable bowls, 282 calories, 17g protein, 7g fiber.

Ground beef and/or turkey - heck, any ground meat you want (brown it first, with salt and pepper)
    Beans
    Onion
    Bell/cubanelle pepper
Hot peppers to your liking (I typically use 1 habanero per lb of meat)
    Diced or crushed tomatoes
    Chili powder
    Crushed red pepper

I agree with @cwolfman13 . Just about any recipe for traditional chili that I have seen makes a nutritionally dense and healthy meal. I like the idea of adding sweet potatoes. I also like to throw a spoon of chopped up chipotle in adobo in there for a little added heat. That's the great thing about chili. You can pretty much throw anything you have on hand in the pot and it comes out great!

Different combinations of Red Kidney Beans, Black Beans, Black eyed Peas, Fava Beans, etc.
    Canned diced tomatoes
    Tomato Paste
    Onions
    Garlic
    Red Pepper
Meat, lately lamb, but also smoked sausage
    Portabello Mushrooms << secret ingredient
    Chili Ancho Powder
    Smoked Paprika

I have a big 6L crock pot and I usually put everything but the beans in overnight on low, add the beans in the morning and set aside some for eating and can the rest in the afternoon. I always have at least a half dozen 1 litre jars on hand and when I get below that I make another batch. Popular with the kids. Usually around 300-330 calories per half litre.

    For added veggies...
I generally grate up one head of cauliflower
Cook/brown meat, then add cauliflower and taco seasonings. (Whatever that is for ur recipe)
Cauliflower absorbs the meat/taco flavor and bulks up the chili, reducing the calories per serving.
I have been doing this for years, and my kids rarely notice.
