Just curious if anyone here has any feedback on the Morningstar Farm products. I am a vegetarian and I am having a hard time meeting my protein and getting enough to eat at dinner. I am so picky so its hard for me to find things I like. I have tried several other options for getting my protein and I just haven't found anything. I already drink 2 protein shakes a day. Thanks a bunch for any feedback!

I am not a vegetarian but I really like them. The chipotle black bean burgers are my favorite. They're the only brand of these type of products that I actually like and purchase.3

Yep. Love the spicy black bean burgers. And my kids prefer the Chik'N Nuggets and Chik'N patties over real chicken.1

Awesome! Thanks y'all!0

We are not vegetarian but love their products, especially the breakfast sausage patties and Buffalo wings. The Buffalo wings are great in salads.1

Look into "Beyond Meat" products too. Their Beefy Crumbles are very high protein and make yummy tacos.5

+1 for Beyond Meat. Really tasty stuff.3

Personally, I prefer Gardein over Morningstar, but it is pricier and may be harder to find depending on where you live. If you live in an area that has a good grocery selection, though, try Field Roast, Lightlife, Sweet Earth vegetarian products, Upton's or Westsoy seitan...lots of great options.3

Kind of highly processed and they contain GMO ingredients, but I guess you have to pick your battles...0

I like the Gardin products better as well. Also if you are doing dairy - Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, are good sources of protein.0

I'm not being snarky, just genuinely curious...if you are not vegetarian, why do you choose to eat these products instead of meat?0 -

I feel like black beans are a food everyone could potentially enjoy. They're not just for vegetarians. Even before I was vegan, I really enjoyed black bean burgers.5 -
I eat the black bean burgers all the time. I'm a fan of them.
As to why I eat them and I'm not a vegetarian, it's because they taste good...pretty simple.10 -
I enjoy Morning Star Farms links and corndogs the most, but not as much since they sold out years ago. I REALLY enjoy LightLife "Gimme Lean" it has a high protein to calorie ratio and it tasty.
(@suzysunshine99, also not a vegetarian, but I enjoy meat alternatives a lot. Less mess, easy storage, generally less fat and variety is the spice of life. I have serious doubts about the sustainability of US beef farming and try to avoid eating beef as much as possible).0 -

I understand the black bean burgers...they taste very different from hamburgers, so I get why someone would enjoy both. I guess I was more asking about the substitute chicken wings/sausage patties/ground beef. These seem to more want to mimic actual meat. I was just wondering if there was another benefit that made meat eaters prefer these products.0 -

Gotcha, that makes sense.0 -

Fiber...for me anyway.0 -
I am also not vegetarian, but I do meatless days sometimes. I'm a fan if the spicy black bean burgers and the spicy chick'n patties. Also really like Boca burgers because of the flame broiled flavor.1

I eat the veggie burgers sometimes and am not a vegetarian. I like the way they taste. Things don't have to be meat to taste good.
I prefer homemade veggie burgers but do like the Morningstar Farms and Boca products I have tried. I have not tried the other brands mentioned in this thread.

What whole foods with protein do you like? Beans, nuts, quinoa all have protein, as do eggs & dairy (if you're not vegan). These items can be cooked in so many different flavorful ways. Morningstar products are loaded with sodium and scary-looking ingredients.0

If I encountered an ingredient that looked frightening to me, I would research it and determine if it had been linked to any actual harm. I find an intellectual response much more useful than an emotional one when it comes to choosing food.
What ingredients are you referring to?
Here's a sample ingredient list from one of their products (Garden Veggie Burgers):
VEGETABLES (MUSHROOMS, WATER CHESTNUTS, ONIONS, CARROTS, GREEN BELL PEPPERS, RED BELL PEPPERS, BLACK OLIVES), TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, WHEAT GLUTEN, WATER FOR HYDRATION), EGG WHITES, COOKED BROWN RICE (WATER, BROWN RICE), ROLLED OATS, CORN OIL, CALCIUM CASEINATE, SOY SAUCE (WATER, SOYBEANS, SALT, WHEAT), CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF ONION POWDER, CORNSTARCH, SALT, HYDROLYZED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (CORN, SOY AND WHEAT), AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVORS FROM NON-MEAT SOURCES, SUGAR, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SPICES, GARLIC POWDER, DEXTROSE, JALAPEÑO PEPPER POWDER, CELERY EXTRACT.5 -

High in sodium for sure, but I eat a lot of sodium as I exercise a lot so it's kind of a wash. As for the ingredients, they are only scary if you don't know what you are looking at...4 -
Morningstar is ok. Everything they have that tries to be fake meat has a weird flavor to it. It's not terrible though.0

I'm a vegetarian and I love almost all Morningstar foods. I'll be having the chik'n strips for dinner tonight :-) I also like gardein foods as it makes me feel like I'm having a complete meal vs a bunch of sides.0

I'm not a veg, but I do buy their products pretty regularly. I like the spicy black bean burgers (topped with a slice of cheddar and an over easy egg is my go-to), the Mediterranean chickpea burgers and the maple sausage patties. The corn dogs are pretty good, too, so sayeth my 11 year old.0
-
Morningstar used to make my favorite thing ever the Baha blackbean pizza. I'm not a vegetarian but I was hooked on those and sad that they've apparently discontinued it.0

I tried the Morningstar corn dogs one night after going out to the bar with a vegetarian friend. They're pretty good! I think they taste better than most corn dogs I've purchased that are supposedly made of meat. I had another friend who would make really good tacos out of the veggie crumbles, which I have replicated when cooking for vegetarians. Once you cook the hell out of ground beef to make taco meat, you really can't tell a whole lot of difference.1 -

I pretty much just eat the blackbean burgers - although I have had the chickn patties too. I don't eat the other products - I don't really like chickem wings, I'm picky about sausage and I like real beef! So just selective products for me because they taste good and are quick and easy to prepare when I don't want to spend a lot of time making a big meal. Plus the calories on them are a lot better than a normal frozen burger patty.0 -
I'm not a vegetarian, but my husband is. When we can afford them we eat Morningstar Farms stuff. I love their "bacon". It's not bacon, but I grew up on it* and it's good.
I also love their vegetable patties. Burger King uses them on the BK Veggie burger, and if you can find a Subway that offers the Veggie Max sandwich that's Morningstar Farms as well.
* technically I grew up on Stripples, a very similar product marketed for Seventh-day Adventists and not well known outside that community. I am a big fan of most of the veggie meats popular with the SDA community, despite being a meat eater.0 -
Uhm, holy crap. The Griller's Prime though. If you're a meat lover looking for a vegatarian option, GRILLERS PRIME. I'm not even remotely vegetarian and I buy these every time I go to the grocery store just because they taste so cotdam good.
Once more: Griller's Prime, by Morningstar.
Just in case you haven't heard: Griller's Prime.
