Increasing activity/step goals

I have a fit bit, and have noticed that since I am not feeling the greatest with being pregnant, it barely records 2k steps a day (ya, I know, pure laziness). Anyway-I want to start increasing my daily activity slowly so that when baby comes I'm not a completely couch potato. Think this schedule/regimen would be helpful?

Initially set step goal to 2k. After 7 straight days of meeting the goal, increase to 2.5k. After reaching that for 7 days, increase to 3k and continue like that until I reach the 10k recommendation?

Does that make sense/seem like a good plan, or no?

That's what I did. Although I started at 5000. I'm now at 8500. I prefer to average it over the week as well, so I can be a little under one day, a little over the next. I run 4km 6 days a week. Best of luck!

Thank you. I just know I've been averaging under 2k so 5K would be quite a leap.

That sounds like a sensible plan.

Just make sure not to push too hard too fast.

That's why I'm starting right near where I've been the past few days.
That's what I've done Elphie. I've told my story before. I started out walking to the corner with a cane and now I clock at least 20K steps every day, and usually, 30-40 minutes of that is a morning run.

All of that evolved slowly, over time, making very small changes in manageable chunks.

    Wow!!!

Thanks ladies! But honestly, I was only trying to show how it's possible to increase from nothing over time to a more active lifestyle.

Start small. Little things. I'll give you an example... whenever I bake something that takes 20 minutes or less for my family, I never sit down while it's in the oven. I either hop on my treadmill or pace around. It's just become automatic. I never sit down while I'm on the phone. I pace around while I'm talking. I put away each piece of laundry individually. I didn't start out doing these things, they were habits I developed as I started looking for ways to add more movement to my day.

Little things like that add up.

Still, that's an amazing accomplishment and deserves to be recognized. It also gives people like me, hope that a more active lifestyle is possible, even though it seems so daunting right now.
