Anyone w/sw of 250+ lbs how long for results?

Anybody who started their weight loss journeys at 250+, how much weight did you lose before you started seeing results? As of now I have lost 20 lbs I started at 270 and I havnt dropped any sizes yet. All I notice is my face starting to look slimmer... I know results don't happen overnight, but I do feel a little discouraged that I cant see results other than my face

Hi there! Don't get discouraged! The beginning is the hardest part and takes a lot of patience and perseverance. I started at 253 lbs (I am 5'6") in April 2016 and it took me about three months to feel some changes in my body (i.e. knickers and fingerrings getting loose) and another three until I could finally see a difference too (just in time, cause I was about to give up). It took me a little over 6 months to get rid of the first 50 lbs, then another three for the next 20 lbs. Since January I got stuck a little, but I am sure that with some adjustments I will get back on track. And oh, it was after 6 months that my friends started seeing some changes too. Now after 70 lbs it is pretty obvious that it ain't the new haircut that is different about me Keep it up, you will get there, just take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up over not waking up skinny the next day. You will get there eventually if you just keep going Oh and congrats on the first 20 lbs!19

Congrats on losing the 20 lbs that is quite a feet ( or is it feat). o.k So what, that the waist is not getting smaller, big deal
Are you walking longer?
Are you running longer?
Are you running just a bit faster?
Are you lifting a bit more?
Are you doing more reps?
If the answer is yes to any of those questions, then who cares about the pants size

I started at 280 and I probably didn't go down a pant size for 40 -ish lbs....
If you can take measurements and I don't just mean your waist. I measure arms, chest, waist, hips, thighs, calves, everything.
Also like another poster said are you able to walk longer/faster, lift more?
It can be frustrating but eventually you will see the results you want. It's just a process.
I know I recently started doing more strength training and I have lost pretty much no weight for the last month (I mean less than 3lbs) BUT I took measurements and I've lost 9inches and I can suddenly fit into a smaller size jeans.
You'll get there! Just keep up the hard work!7 -

Honestly I'm with you, I don't notice anything slimming down my pant size has dropped but i still feel the same and its discouraging that most people don't notice expect for a few people here and there. I just keep pushing and hopefully I will see a different person when i look in the mirror4 -

It's really hard to not play mind games with yourself. You're doing a great job and you look great. It's hard, but I think you have to look at it as a lifestyle change, not a diet. It's just something you do. You eat well and you exercise. You're going to have plateaus. You're going to have tough times. You're going to have life. But you're going to have a lot of great times too. You need to keep your eye on the goal and not where you currently are. Don't let yourself get in the way of yourself!9 -

Hi there, I started at 355 and it wasnt until I had lost about 35-40 pounds that I really noticed a difference in clothing sizes. It was at about the 50 pound lost mark that some folks started to notice, and by 60-70 pounds lost everyone noticed. Because you are quite a bit smaller, I would expect that you will notice sooner. Just focus on the fact that you are making healthy choices, and you will notice all in good time. It can be quite a process, but if you relax into it and just take it one step at a time, it makes things smoother. Congratulations on your weight loss so far, you are doing awesome!

I started (again ) around 319, and it does take some time, especially depending on how your weight is situated. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I feel like a butterball turkey, as I have weight all over, not just one particular spot. Like Momma it probably took about 30pds before I noticed a clothing difference, roughly about the same before people actually said anything to me. Congratulations on your loss so far! It takes time, so don't get discouraged.1

I'd recommend not weighing for a month, at least. Focus on logging your food and exercising, creating healthy habits.
A few years, when I first started using MFP, I didn't believe I could really lose weight. I waited 6 weeks to weigh, and only then bc I had to weigh at a dr. visit. I lost 10 pounds and was in total shock that I had lost weight. I didn't believe I really could lose!

It takes a bit longer to see results but I did feel better within weeks. I started at 268 5'10 wearing a size 20, I am now down to 227 pounds & can wear some size 16 pants depending on the cut. Overall it took a 41 pound difference to drop 2 jean sizes, keep going!! The more you loose the shorter in between sizes3

Keep at it! Sometimes it's just an extra 5 or 10lb's on top of your amazing 20lb's and suddenly everyone starts noticing, especially you. People often report that it's the 10% lost that really shows, and you are so close to that! As the pervious posters said, until then focus on all the other positive changes aside from weight.

I started at 254. After I'd lost about 15 pounds, I tried getting into a dress I'd bought about a year earlier. It had needed some alterations that I waited six months to get and by the time I had them done, I looked like a sausage in a tight casing in it. When I tried the dress on this time, it fit perfectly.
Now as for OTHER people noticing, that started around the 25-pound mark.1 -
My highest just before MFP was 256. I first noticed changes when I got around 230. Hubby said there was less @$$ to grab.4

I started around the same place and I'm now down 41 lbs. I went down a shirt size and one pant size after about 30 lbs. Now I'm feeling the way you are...when do I get to go down another size? Every time I feel like giving up I remember that I already made it down one size and with every passing week I'm hopeful that the next size is getting closer and closer. So I just keep at it.
Here are some things that keep/have kept me going:

The smaller coat I bought in November now looks ridiculous on me. I'm thankful we are having a normal-than-usual winter up north!
My collarbones! My collarbones! I'm obsessed with them. I touch them ALL.THE.TIME.

I was getting a bit discouraged in the beginning because I expected to drop clothing sizes faster. I saw someone on here describe it as layers of an onion. Because these lbs are coming from all over, it takes more weight to drop a size at larger sizes. I'm down a bit over 40 lbs and I'm finally down about a pant size and a half.
Keep it up! It's not just about that number on the scale or pant size... it's about health. It really sank in with me a few weeks ago when I was carrying a 30 lb dog food bag to my car. I was happy to recognize that I've lost more weight than the bag of dog food. No wonder I'm not getting as winded climbing stairs!2 -

You may not need another size yet - but, aren't your clothes suddenly more comfortable? Hanging better? Don't you FEEL better, already? I know that by the time I lost the first 50 lbs - My knees and ankles had stopped hurting so badly every day and I had an actual spring in my step (yeah, it's a real thing).
I started at 367 in the dark ages (5'4")- so I can't SWEAR to how much it took to drop a size - but, I can tell you that after losing 100 pounds - I had only gone from wearing a 5x to 4x pant - a 3x if I wanted them to be tight. So, yeah - the higher you start, the longer it takes.
All I can tell you is that it is completely and totally worth whatever amount of impatience you have to squash. I can also tell you - DO NOT wait until you are 50+ years old to figure it out. It only gets more difficult to lose it - and all the parts start to wear out - which make exercise more difficult. Trust me on this - DO IT NOW. No matter your age, or your size - because despite the comment above - it's never too late to:
Use MFP to it's fullest
get a grip on portion size and food issues.
Find some form of exercise that you can at least tolerate, if not love.
It will change your life.

I started at 258 and am down 33lbs but pushing for another 50-60lbs by midsummer, it took me about 15lbs to see a difference. I also felt better, too.1

Are you purely logging food or incorporating exercise as well?
I started at 256lb back in the 1st week of December with the exception of Christmas - New Year I've done meal planning, strength training and walking. I've lost about 14lb and down to 242lb now but I have been able to start seeing the results from about the 6 week point, I believe it's mostly down to the strength training as my eating patterns haven't changed too much, although I'm learning to factor eating out/takeaway into my goals. I can definitely see I've lost weight off my stomach and thighs, I can see my arms and calves are more toned and the abs are on the road to definition. I've also had no back or hip pain since I started which is the biggest blessing of all.0 -
I was 283, when I started and over 50, to boot. I always struggled with weight and weight loss. I would lose some then gain it back plus some. I gave up and just ate. Then my husband had 2 heart attacks and by-pass surgery. We had to change our eating habits and our life style. I started monitoring our salt intake, since he was put on a 2000mg/day sodium restriction, which meant I now had to read labels and watch portion sizes. That was 9/16. To date, I have lost 35 lbs and seem to be at a plateau. I was very frustrated, in the beginning, thinking I was heavy enough the weight should just fall off, which, much to my dismay, it did not. I was loosing 1-2 lbs a week, which a nutritionist told me was a great weight loss. It took about 25-30 lbs before my clothes started feeling looser and I am actually in clothes I haven't worn for years. My husband comments he can see my weight loss, but others have not. I too see it in my face, but don't see it in other places. I agree with comments up above that give it time. It will happen, and by taking it off slow and steady, it should be something you can maintain when all is said and done. Remember it isn't about what others see, it is about how you feel. We exercise everyday be it walking 2 miles (hills included) or riding a stationary bike. I feel better, I can see my ankles, again, I am not out of breath when I tie my shoes and I don't think my bat wings are as big as they used to be. That being said, look for the small things and one day you will notice all the big things. Best of luck on your journey.1

I started at 378 pounds, and have lost 78 so far. And I can't see a blimmin' thing; except, as you say, a slightly slimmer face.
...my friends tell me that the change is not only obvious but drastic, and people at work have noticed too. It's just me that doesn't. So it may be that way for you too.4 -
I started in March 2013 at 262 lb. By August 2013 I was at 225 lb but only beginning to wear smaller sizes by that point.
However, when I hit 210 lb (around the end of 2013) EVERYONE I knew was noticing & commenting and I'd dropped several sizes. It is very true that the lower you go, the more noticeable a loss will be. It is well worth sticking with it.
(now almost 4 years later, I am in 170s range, my lowest was 166, so I'm sort of in a maintenance zone at 5'8" and don't really plan to go below 160)3 -

I noticed it significantly by the time I was 220lbs, then again at 180, then 160, and every ten pounds there after.3 -
I started at 275 and 5'3" in September. I'm down to to 227 today. I am wearing the same clothing size as when I first weighed in because I was in total denial. I had recently moved and took my measurements so I could order warmer clothes online. I was not the 2x I had somehow been squeezing into, but a 4x. I got back on the losing wagon and went ahead and ordered those clothes in a 3x and they fit by the time they got here.
In the first two months I lost 30 pounds. I got to pull out those old 2x clothes before Thanksgiving and fit in them for real that time. I had not noticed any changes in the mirror, but was aware my weight and measurements were way lower so I took pictures and compared to a photo from the weekend before I came back to MFP. Whoa! My face, especially my chin, had thinned out a ton, so I think that is often where change is first noticed, and my whole body looked a little slimmer. So, I would def recommend taking pics and measurements for comparison.
Since then I'm 17 pounds down and still in the same size, but I've been buying the misses XXL instead of 2X plus, because they are more fitted through the waist and I have one of those now. Recently, I'm noticing how skinny my legs look is the mirror. Everyday, for the past week I've been wondering who those scrawny legs belong to and where exactly are these extra 90 pounds I need to lose? I think I go through phases where I don't see anything change, then one day I don't recognize myself. I also believe all my clothes have shrunk every time I do laundry until I wear them. I'm sure you will get to this confusing state of being soon enough. Give it another 20-30 pounds and you won't know who you are anymore.3 -
I started at 255 three months ago and have lost 31lbs. I can't really see the difference, but I did have to buy a belt last week. The pants I bought to excercise in kept falling down, so I had to buy new ones. I've had compliments from people who don't know I'm trying to lose weight, so I guess it is a bit noticeable. I'll be happy when I can see it too.1

My starting weight was 311. I didn't much Start noticing a change till I was around 260. So it'll take about 50lbs depending on the amount you need to lose

I started Jan 4th at 245 and I'm 230 now. I don't see my family much as they live 4 hours away. I visited last weekend and they could see a difference straight away but I think this is because it's dropping off my face first. I also noticed in my clothes that those muffin top handles that stick out the sides of my dresses have slimmed a bit.
I took measurements about week 3 and going to measure again at the end of Feb. Excited to see where it goes. I've started over many times in here and always find the scale is my enemy as it moves so slow but this time I've added a lot of accountability friends and taking note of those nsvs as I know I'm getting stronger.
Just remember this is full-on war with your body - just keep swimming. Every day is a victory and in 6 months you'll be so proud of how far you've come. I'm very excited2
